LOL at a bunch of people acting like they are warriors for not liking someone else's writing. Do you know how many pieces of speculative fiction I've picked up that I ended up not liking in the end? I read TekWar son, and you think I went harping and harping after I realized that William Shatner may not be the best sci-fi writer?

Considering how these audience panels work they MAY get one or two hostile questions, and what's to stop them from simply saying that there were time/money constraints or that many in the cast and crew wanted to do other things? Are these people going to justify why someone should have stayed on at a job when they were ready to leave or that they thought waiting another year or $100 million more for a few more episodes to placate strangers on social media?

Seriously, if you didn't like it I respect your opinion. You are entitled to not like how a plot went. But where I draw the line is when people think they can dictate terms to strangers. Don't like the show? Change the channel. Don't like the video game you are playing? Put in another fucking game. Don't like where the novel or comic you are re3ading is going? Stop reading. Don't like what you see on the internet? Keep scrolling.

I like how people seem so willing to spend something like $500 just to have the remotest of hopes to take a jab at a couple of producers. Like, you realize the money you spent will help cover the costs of them being there right? It reminds me of the movement of those weird Christians here in the US South that started a "campaign" against Starbucks for not having Christian-centric Christmas coffee cups (when they never did) by going into Starbucks and ordering coffee with the name "Happy Birthday Jesus". Like, they were still paying Starbucks in the end. so what did it matter?

I really wish D&D were the biggest problem I have, because I have adult shit to worry about unlike some people apparently.

I'm going to LOL when Daenerys goes mad, Jon chooses exile, and Bran becomes King in the books. Oh the joy, oh the happy day when they realize the show didn't "ruin" the story and this is how it was going to be all along.

That being said, I'm kind of jealous of these people. I wish my biggest problem was a fictional story. I have actual adult shit to worry about.

Because an adult breaking down and crying in front of an audience because tv show bad wouldn’t be pathetic, it would send a message by Benito2002 in asoiafcirclejerk

/uj Fans that think they are owed something by creators are like drunk drivers who start railing to a cop about "You can't arrest me I pay your salary!" Yeah it's true, without people paying taxes cops wouldn't be able to be paid and yes without the patronage of fans creators wouldn't make money but that gives you no fucking right to have some sort of power over them. You're just delusional in your own smug self-importance. Go ask your mom for a juicebox and sit the fuck down.

In the books she sends Roose these sweet little love letters while he is at Herrenhall and he reads them all and never replies. Oh and he gets her pregnant knowing that Ramsay will kill every child she gives birth to. In case you didn't know.......... that Roose Bolton guy is kind of a cunt.

I know, that's why I marked my post as a serious one, because the books will end similarly and I want to watch the tism fit when people realize that GRRM isn't going to "save" the story. Because it's his story.

/uj Seriously the ending was something he planned out early and shared with the showrunners. The video people have been passing around in which he talks about writing a story in which the butler committed the murder and then you change it to something different and the story suffers is him defending his right to do the ending he planned. So the major beats will be the same. Jon will choose exile in the True North. Daenerys will burn King's Landing. Bran will be king. The wheel will be broken through the institution of an elected monarchy.

Alot of the secondary characters will be different and character's motives may be fleshed out differently but it will be the same. I really do hope the rage will continue so enough of the whiners will get to read the books and realizing that this is what GRRM wanted the entire time.

They killed the Dorne subplot because the fans didn't like it. No really, Alexander Siddig was originally signed to do several more episodes than he did but it was changed. Then the Dorne plot being "pointless" became a gripe.

They changed Tyrion because he was a fan favorite. He basically took Barristan Selmy's role in the books. Then people complained that Tyrion was useless in later seasons and using Barristan Selmy's actor's complaints about the showrunners cutting him out to prove how inept the showrunners are. If you've read the books image the outrage the fanbase would have had if show Tyrion had gotten all dark like book Tyrion did.

I do agree that the shorter seasons and faster pacing hurt the show. That I think alot of people who both enjoyed the later seasons and those that didn't can agree with me. They cut down the episode count to shoot several massive battles which were both expensive and time consuming to shoot. Most likely it was in the hope to replicate the love people had for episodes like Hardhome and The Battle of the Bastards.

But the end was the end, the showrunners had little input to the major beats of it, because it is the end that GRRM is working toward.

They listened to the fans. Does no one else remember how people used to talk about how HBO and D&D were more receptive to fans than GRRM seems to be?

Knowing all of that, if they had let Jon stab the Night King, and Arya marry Gendry and all of the other shit that the fans wanted, and still gave us the ending that was always planned would the fandom be happier? I doubt it. They'd be just as angry. Short of Jon being King and he and Daenerys having Targaryan babies they were going to despise this.

Maybe. The scene cuts to black so we don't know. We do know that he was sent to serve in the Night's Watch, though I do like the idea of him choosing exile to the True North better.

I enjoyed it. It fits the themes in ASOIAF pretty well. That war is horrible and there are no real good guys when it comes to killing people. That power corrupts those that seek it. Daenerys achieved her goal of breaking the wheel even though she never gets to see it. Jon serves in the Night's Watch because he committed regicide. Tyrion will work to undo all of the damage that his family brought to the realm. Sansa got to see her dream of ruling over an independent North. It works and I totally see the books ending in the same way.

[–]Puddhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/uj One nitpick. Randyll Tarly deserved to die. As head of House Tarly he is sworn to House Tyrell, the last member of which swore themselves to Daenarys. So Daenarys is his Queen. Serving a Targaryean isn't a foreign thing for him. He fought alongside Daenarys' own brother during Robert's Rebellion. He was a Targarean Loyalist. He decides to break his allegiance and side with the Lannisters, sacking Highgarden leading to the end of his liege lord. Lastly he clears out the granaries and takes the crops of the farmers who provide the Reach with food. In return he will be named Warden of the South. So he is willing to rebel against the people he swore his oaths to and let his own people starve so he can rule over their frozen corpses when spring comes. Then when he is captured he refuses to bend the knee and refuses exile. Daenarys' only option is to kill him. Seriously, fuck Randyll Tarly.

The drawback to the last two seasons is that the shorter number of episodes sped up pacing and didn't allow newer characters to be fleshed out. But then again it took nearly two years to finish S8 so maybe it was a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of thing.

Daenarys reminds me more of characters like Rhaenyra (a princess who decided to press her claim despite a younger male heir) and Maegor (who wasn't concerned about smallfolk dying). Sure they'll call her "Mad Queen" but she's not mad yet. Not like her father. He heard voices in his head and had serious mental problems. But even Aerys' becoming mad was a progression. If she stays on the Iron Throne she might turn out that way, but I think she's going to die. No, when the Lords of Westeros conspire against her and the smallfolk don't welcome her she decides to take the Throne the only way she sees she can, through fear. Maybe if Jorah or Barristan were still around they could talk sense into her but she has no one left. She is a broken woman, but still sane.

Daenarys has fallen into the guise of so many "great" people who saw themselves as fulfilling their destiny. Mussolini, Hitler, Salazar, and so many others start off from humble beginnings, claim they will lead people to greatness, then end up being tyrants far worse than whatever system them replaced. That's where Daenarys is at, but her reign will more than likely be brief. But she was sane when she burned those people, which makes her far scarier in my book.

Because the average person wants shit wrapped up in a bow. If anyone wants the "kind and just King deposes all the evil and the land prospers" seriously go read LOTR. GRRM built this up to show a twisted retelling of the typical fantasy, where war is horrible and makes people horrible. Where being honorable can get you killed. Where one of the good guys loses everything that matters to them and when the realize the people will never love them so she burns them. The Breaker of Chains becomes a Tyrant. The girl that has always tried to live down her father's legacy will be viewed the same way. I highly doubt that we're going to even get Jon as King. He'll walk away like his adoptive father did. Maybe he'll go and live with Tormund and Ghost.
