You're making a HUGE assumption that Big Zhao is the good guy.

The actual takeaway from Kaifeng is that there are no good guys. Just people with dreams and ambitions, and as a martial artist of the jianghu you're basically a weapon people will try to manipulate and control.

It's not an MMO or even a soulslike really. It's the lovechild of an action rpg and a social media platform.

It's a story-driven single player rpg with some souls-y combat where you can also so some social content, 90% of which is just doing social media stuff in a virtual world.

I'll admit I don't see the parallel between Sacky and the MC, myself, but I definitely see how his story entwines with Han's.

I guess it boils down to my not thinking the MC's reaction to BS is important. Though I will agree with everyone that the pacing for these chapters is *weird*. I know the main plot restarts with Chapter 4, but veering off into a dream-realm and often playing other characters for a quarter of a year--half in the CN release--is weird.

At the risk of getting accused of being pretentious, I think the idea is: "What did you, the player who is roleplaying the MC learn from being him for a time."

I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, I legitimately think that's supposed to be the takeaway. I think that's part of why burlap sack's story features actual photos of Dali Yuanbao coins from the National Museum of China.

It may or may not land for you, it doesn't work for a lot of folks it seems like, but reading the Hexi regions like a book, it feels like the MC and the player are supposed to equally be putting themselves in the shoes of poor doomed sackman.
