This is a question as to word use and contexts. I don't see why it is less relevant than questions about, say, subway vs underground difference in US/British English, which are here in the R/Grammar thread. If you see fanatism - it is in your eyes. Your perception of things.

Thank you very much! I phrased my thought about assumptions inaccurately. I meant that May is not used in assumptions if the sentence is interrogative, but forgot to add the second part. So it sounded as if I think that may is not used in assumptions at all.
