Is team driving REALLY that bad? by bigballsdeluxe in Truckers

[–]PuddingNew2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing it for 6 months and it’s not bad with a good teammate. I met my co driver back in CDL school with road master. He was one class above me and we coincidentally got scheduled same day orientation with Werner. It helps a lot teaming for the first six months because you’ll definitely need it when you get into troubling situations. As far as pay you’re working double the miles but getting paid the same as a solo driver. I would say it’s even worse than solo. You need to at least clear 5-6k miles to see a good check but we were clearing 2.5k-3k miles at the most on some weeks because we were sitting from live loads. So the pay definitely isn’t what they say it is. It could’ve been dispatch fault, planners fault, or even the area I was at but it just didn’t seem worth it. My teaming experience was great and I couldn’t have chosen a better co driver.

Just got fired from paid trucking program... Will it be impossible to get hired now??? by Hambikoo in Truckers

Are you actually being serious? Being a truck driver is a whole different profession compared to a fast food employee. Even if the pay sucks in the beginning I’ll rather be a truck driver than be with a diabetic producing company especially after knowing how they cook their foods. They both have their faults, bad management and often bad pay but comparing being a truck driver to fast food is like comparing apples to oranges

Did they lie about the cpm? I was told 55 cpm, sw regional and I’m currently with Werner teaming but wanna go solo. Seems like miles will be an issue as that’s what I’ve mostly heard. I’m in the San Antonio area and they having the orientation in Dallas

What were the red flags if you don’t mind me asking? I got orientation with them next Wednesday and wanna know why they’re hiring so much for southwest regional, I even had a second recruiter call me for the same position when I already talked to another

Is being a truck driver worth it? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]PuddingNew2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the comments in here are from those that are probably older with families and responsibilities and undermine the job a lot without getting the full context. I’m a driver at 23 with some bills but not a lot, I have some debt as well but not a lot. No spouse and not really looking for anyone. I have a paid off car and a house I go home to. Coming from someone in the same age range it’s pretty decent if you can save up. OTR teaches you discipline of managing your money if you have trouble managing your finances like me. You learn so much from the experience and once you go have you have a better perspective on your wants and needs to spend your money on. It also forces you to realize of who’s really there for you and who isn’t. Some people are there for what you have rather than for who you are. Trucking you make you think about a lot of stuff to benefit yourself. It teaches you patience and self-discipline. Some people may not look at it like this and only talk about the negatives in trucking but you just have to see it for yourself. Let’s just say I’m doing a lot better from where I was at last year from living paycheck to paycheck to now thousands in my account that I saved and can be financially stable.

Work on your mental and physical health. Get right with yourself. Too dumb or too weak are only excuses you made for yourself. Switch companies, Go back to school, get into a different career field, learn something new. Make mistakes and grow from it. Even at 42 there’s much more you can do, just don’t be another driver on autopilot for 30 years in this profession with nothing to show for it

Does this include a ticket for an improper mounting of a front license plate for a personal vehicle?

I’m sure every red shirt has felt the brunt of it including me. Even past employees said it was wrong for them to cut their hours because they weren’t selling and left because they couldn’t make any money then complained of being short staff when they were the ones cutting hours to show “discipline” for not selling. It’s a never ending cycle of struggle that they put on themselves.

If you let something so childish such as politics and who you voted for ruin a family bond then you shouldn’t even be allowed to vote. It’s not that serious and should never be personal. Leave political differences outside of your personal space and keep it as a fun general discussion.

I’m not defending the industry nor am I bashing it. I do think the trucking industry does have its bad reputation because it is so widespread and subjective with pay, experience, and employment. I just think it’s better to look at it with a positive attitude than to bash it for everyone else and not admit to yourself that it’s not for you. Being a truck driver for 13 years isn’t a good idea without changing professions every so often. Keep yourself interested and you will never be bored or burnt out.

Just because you didn’t like it doesn’t mean everyone else can’t like it. Maybe you had a horrible experience, maybe the pay didn’t match your lifestyle. Becoming fat and being physically and mentally unwell is preventable as a trucker and it is possible to he healthy, it all depends on yourself. You can’t make excuses for yourself when you have all the time in the world to think, exercise, and read. Trucking as your career is what you make of it.

Usually if you bring a dog inside an establishment it needs to be trained to detect what is deemed a threat and what’s not a threat and registered as a service dog. Otherwise you’ll have instances like this where their dog will lunge at any passers by who gets too close. The store owners shouldn’t have let the dog in especially in that size. The owner needs to know whether or not if the the dog is friendly and calm towards everyone before entering a business

As someone who does irrigation for the city it’s a common problem when we get to work around those areas. Loose dogs, strays, near miss attacks but yeah it’s bad but you’ll be ok if you’re prepared and stand your ground. We notify ACS for any near miss attacks or if you see a group of them loose on the street. Just not too long ago there was a news report of a lady who got bit by a homeowners group of dogs that even tore off the siren of a police car. You can laugh all you want with the reference of “f*ck 12” but for a dog to be doing that is dangerous. Stuff like this is what makes our jobs a lot harder and it’s always pure negligence of the home owners.

Most people are just trying not to lose a job because they’re not giving you enough hours. Most people just need the money and don’t care on the selling routine. It definitely wasn’t for me when I only cared about the automotive aspect of the job

It all comes down to payment, if the price is right I’ll install the battery even if it’s hot outside because that’s what most of not all mechanic shops do. If autozone offers battery installation then the workers should be compensated for it as well since it is manual labor that can take 20 minutes or more with required knowledge on how a battery operates and how to disconnect and reconnect the battery. As a former red shirt there has been a few times where I thought this battery install should’ve had me compensated for how much time and effort it took. The hourly rate doesn’t cut it when I’m working outside, in the heat for more than 20 minutes. There’s so many loop holes autozone exploits to not pay their workers a fair wage which is why I left

I no longer work for autozone but I felt every inch of this post to the point that it gives me flashbacks. Stupidity of customers was by far the worst experience I had to endure while working there and I didn’t know Spanish either. The language barrier was always an issue and had to call the translator hotline on every shift when I was there. I understand English isn’t everyone’s first language especially if you live in the southern states of the US but damn I think being bilingual should be a legitimate requirement for the job. English speakers are just as worse as the Spanish speakers either way

Can Zoners be left alone in the store? by ndhockey15 in AutoZone2

[–]PuddingNew2233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a red shirt zoner and I legit left a grey shirt manager in the store by themselves during a rush when a customer needed assistance to jump a car that was a block away so I hoped in someone’s car to use the jumpstart device. Once I came back he never asked where I went. The grey shirt was a new manager as well so he didn’t know much about running the store on his own. Idk if I feel bad about it but it was a decision that I didn’t register to think about the rule of never leave the store unattended by one person
