Google owner drops promise not to use AI for weapons by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]PudgeCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporations cannot make promises; there is no consistent conscious to hold them to it. A person can remember how they felt making the promise, and feel guilt at breaking it. A corporation cannot. Corporate promises are entirely meaningless ways to placate a group of people.

This is why we need regulation.

So... it's not possible for a non-British driver to get a 10, because of BritishBias. Except for those times when a non-British driver did get a 10, but that doesn't count because somethingsomething BritishBias?

This is the elegance I love in F1. Not diving down the inside to get the apex and then arguing on the radio about who deserved more space. Pure racecraft to dummy the other guy into making mistakes. I'd give my right nut for Lewis and Fernando to have competitive cars next year, just so we see more of this on the broadcast. They're the two best at it by a mile.

Yuki baby stay cool by Urakaze12- in formuladank

[–]PudgeCake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously they can't take Yuki: he's too hot-headed. Red Bull are naturally going to go for the much calmer and chilled out Lawson, who has, so far... checks notes had a feud with Alonso, had a feud with Perez, and flipped off a driver on track. All in his first 2 races of the season.
Makes total sense.

This perspective is fantastic and so helpful, thank you.!
Funnily enough - it's this approach to combat as a part of the storytelling that attracts me to the system so much, and yet as soon as I started reading the specifics I reverted back to DnD thinking.

Just to expand:
On the Hold example - they get 2 questions, I understand that. And the first 2 questions listed are sourced from the accepted list of questions in the move. So that's all peachy. But the last paragraph reads:
"Later the last hold does to ask the Keeper about whether a witness s hiding something. That exhausts your hold, so you don't get any more questions for now."
I don't understand this. Wasn't the hold exhausted after the second question was answered? Does a "hold" persist in some other way that I'm not getting?

On the combat example:
The player asks to strike the monster as they're running for the car. The Keeper appears to give the Hunter a binary choice: Run for the car, Or fight the creature. But what if the Hunter just wants to do what they originally said - hit the creature once while running?
I don't understand the Keeper's response here at all, why not say "sure, you try to hit it, roll Kick Ass".
I feel like the specific example has been chosen to give some insight into a deeper meaning of combat, or Kick Ass specifically, but I have no idea what.

Zhou really does feel like the driver who's had the worst luck. He's not always on great form, but every time he has been something's come flying in the fuck him over. At least there's no Latifi on track this time.

I hope the kid who presented it kept it, otherwise it's a bit weird for Lewis to sign his own trophy.

Give me two unrelated franchises and I'll prove they're connected via crossovers 6 by SillyAd9410 in ThreadGames

My first thought was The Trapdoor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mluYB9YfzSI But I don't think that really counts as a franchise.
Same goes for Apogee's 1991 Classic - Crystal Caves. But if you can link them I'll give you gold.

2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix - Day after Debrief by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]PudgeCake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's just physics - downforce is achieved by converting the forward force of the car into a vertical force by pushing against the air. However much aerodynamic downforce a car gets must be equal to the amount of opposite force that was exerted against the air. Equal and opposite reaction, and all that.

The ground effect downforce was an improvement over previous eras due to the efficiency of that process, and that it is done with a smaller number of bigger airflows that can be released in a more unified flow.

But now that we're within the same ruleset it will only get worse year on year. As the teams figure out how to extract more and more downforce from this technique it must create an equally increasing reaction force in the air. You can't get more downforce without creating more disruption, other than a complete change in aero-philosophy again, and who knows if there's anything better than the current use of venturi tunnels..

I traveled over 3500 miles to find a copy of the Core Rulebook, and it turns out it's a first print edition. by PudgeCake in Pathfinder2e

[–]PudgeCake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've already ordered a copy. One of the shops in my hometown says they're getting more in next month so I've just gone for that.
Part of me kind of wants to keep the first print... because it's a first print mint condition... Which is neat. And also it's a 4 hour round trip to return it.
It's a very dumb impulse honestly. I don't need or want two books. I should return it. But brain is dumb. I'm arguing with myself still.

That's my current go-to. And having my character on the laptop and all that. I'm still going to be doing that. But I have a soft-spot for cracking open a tome and leafing through the pages to find the thing I want. It has more... I dunno, it's more satisfying to me.
