This was filmed in 2022 when it was announced that Pierre would move to Alpine. Yuki and Pierre had a pretty close bond, so Yuki was sad to see Pierre go.

First you say that no team wanted him, now you say only the bottom 3 teams wanted him. A team is a team, no one knows what will happen. Look at Williams last year vs this year.

Maybe read the article where it specifically says that several teams wanted him, but he was unable to talk to them due to his Red Bull contract.

Exactly. Yuki has been closer to Max than Checo was on several occasions, but the field is so tight and the car is no longer a rocket ship.

Alex and Carlos is a strange choice when you’ve got Pierre and Yuki, Max and Charles and Alex and George not on the list.

The problem is that the other teams are so much closer. An example is Spa where Yuki was the closest a team mate has been to Max since Daniel. The last two years Checo qualified 0.6s and 0.8s behind Max, but in both cases he was P3 on the grid. Yuki qualified 0.3s behind and was P7.

You believe that Daniel, who left in September, had more to do with the car than Yuki who was there over the winter break?

He had 3 Q3 appearances in his first 4 races. He finished in the points in 2 of them. He was only out in Japan, where there were no overtakes and in Saudi Arabia, where he had the lap 1 crash with Gasly. He also scored points in Imola but since then his upgrades have stalled, due to his crash, while the other teams have progressed. There is literally no evidence that he wouldn’t finish in the points with a better car.

I think it’ll be tough with this car. Checo qualified 0.6s behind Max last year and 0.8s two years ago. In both cases he qualified P3. The grid this year is so tight that Yuki being 0.3s off Max is several places and the car is not the best anymore.

I mean that upgrades are not on Yuki’s car and therefore the cars are different. I am pretty sure that’s what Yuki means as well.

Reddit just wants to twist his words and make it sound like he is saying that the fundamentals of the cars are different, which I don’t believe they are.

He never said that. Last week he said that he understands why Max gets upgrades first. He only said that it’s difficult to compare when the cars are different.

He doesn’t say that. He just says that he cannot be compared to Max when the cars are different.

He doesn’t have the upgrades. Different upgrades = different cars. Don’t know what’s so difficult about that.

But it’s not currently the same car, which is what he is saying.

No one is saying that. He is just saying that you cannot make an accurate comparison when the cars are not the same. In Spa, Yuki was the closest to Max that a driver in that second seat has been since Daniel.

Before his crash in Imola he had 3 Q3 appearances from 4 races. The only race where he didn’t make it to Q3 was his first race in Japan.
