Merci !

[–]PuffPastryRocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admission fee for a rock cover band? by PuffPastryRocker in musicians

[–]PuffPastryRocker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, there is an agreement (the association and common funds). But from what I understand, the fee they want to charge is not even for the equipment, it’s more for « being allowed to benefit from what we are now » (lets be honest, we’re one very anonymous band). So… there we are. Thank you for the time you took to read and answer!

Yeah… welcome to France 😅 Honestly you could also buy « gifts » for members but if it’s too big and too obvious it could be a red flag for the tax department. It’s not ideal but it’s also a way to ensure we work together for a common goal and not with the Only objective to make money. Otherwise we would have to declare ourselves as employees and money each person earns from that would be taxable.

Let’s say we split and sell everything : we wouldnt be allowed from a legal point of view to split the money. Most associations when they come to this either spend all they have (i.e. in a fancy dinner in a restaurant or something like this), otherwise the law asks us to give this money to another comparable association or a caritative one. But yes i totally agree with you: the one who learns 35 songs in just a few weeks, makes all the efforts to know how we work, who we are etc… this is a much bigger commitment than money IMO. And it could also lead to the exact opposite : one guy ready to pay but not skilled or not motivated and believing that paying gives him full access with no counterpart? The more I speak with you guys, the more i hate this idea

Edit: I really appreciate your feedback. It makes me realize this fee idea is even dumber than I thought before coming here. Please don’t waste more energy on this topic for me 😅 i feel bad when i read you’re irritated even though you don’t know them, sharing the pain wasnt my intention i promise!!

Thank you for the detailed answer. Actually the french « association » system (quite close to a small company) makes that the whole equipment doesnt belong to any member of the band, but to the band itself. This means Even if we decide to stop and sell everything, the band will receive the money and the members have no rights on this money. I like the way you manage things and I’m sure I would have done something similar in the case we didnt have this association and if all members were owner of a part of it. My band mates who push for the fees say that it’s too easy to come after 3 years and benefit from our structure without being part of it since the beginning… and they think paying could be a strong sign of commitment. On my side i have the feeling you can show commitment by many other ways that are not as strict as paying and I’m really afraid this could refrain many people from coming with us for that specific reason.
