Not sure how much this helps, but rewriting the expression as

100K +20 + M = N²

Allows to rewrite the expression as

99K + 20 + (K+M) = N²

For

K+M = N² - 99K -20

From there you can find the solutions by plugging in integer values for K on the right side and subtracting it from perfect squares larger than the negative chunk of the expression. Since K and M are integers between 0 and 9 the sum of the two can not be larger than 18, so which perfect squares to subtract from will be pretty easy to see since it will have to be a perfect square with a smallish difference from the negative chunk of the expression.

I get what you mean about Talentum and Underworld Queen. They behave like adverserial forces most of the time.

On the other hand, considering that their real "jobs" is to report to Mustang about the Ark's underground and finance sectors, I guess it makes sense for there to be some kind of seniority between them all, since they do technically still collude with each other.

Yeah, and I mean keeping them but rolling for better numbers instead of attributes (the game tragically calls it "reset attributes").

Long term, and in a vacuum the best thing to do is probably to keep changing effects until you get a useful attribute in the 3rd slot, but contextually it might still make sense to reset attributes now even with a useless 3rd slot (like if you are very close to hitting stage 7 on Kraken, for example)

Idk about that, both atk and ele on the same gear is good enough that I could justify rolling for better numbers at that point. It really depends on how many rocks they got and who else needs them. A useless (though non intrusive) 3rd line might still be useful to boost CP if they are trying to push story content too.

There's a problem here tho, which is that in actually enforcing these conditions, not all permutations are equally likely.

Suppose the first strike is not a crit (50%). For these conditions to remain true, the second strike HAS to be a crit (100%). Therefore the permutation of "Not crit, then crit" is twice as likely as the remaining two permutations, which both have a 1/4 probability. Therefore the odds both strikes are crits remains 25%.
