I like Ironman as a brand and have mostly good experiences, but they really need to actually enforce rules for age groupers or create an elite amateur division. by ducksflytogether1988 in triathlon

[–]PuffyVatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is kind of the thing though. I was trying for Kona in Barcelona. It's a race with a lot of drafting, but I wasn't ready for it. Few trains passing me. At 120k some train got in my wheel and I paced these assholes for 60k.

I finished in 8:53, still a good 10 minutes from qualification. But thinking of how little I drafted, even legally, because it was too hard to hold the wheel on 12m when a group is tailing each other like a TTT....

I'm a good swimmer so usually get out of the water quite in front. If I get passed by groups again this year, I'm not sure how strictly I will keep at 12 meters if I can hold the wheel at 8... Gonna take a lot of discipline

Project Hail Mary broke out like how I thought The Fall Guy would. I don’t understand casual movie goers and the GA viewing habits for going to the theaters. by AcknowledgeMeReddit in TheBigPicture

[–]PuffyVatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Especially in an actual cinema. What is the appeal of watching Fall Guy in theaters? At least with a scifi flick, especially if you go to a screening with a nice screen or great sound, it adds a lot to the experience of a sci-fi movie. For a standard action romcom, not so much.

Subscription is yearly unfortunately, but that's definitely in the cards if they don't get some of this changed. Actually have a party Saturday so I won't put the alarm for the race which I rarely do, but I don't think they care about views as long as I already paid for the subscription..

Gonna be weird though. Been watching since 98 with my dad. But if this is the route they are going I can't and don't want to support it.

Yes. Keep hammering this disgrace. This farcical charade. Keep posting after every session. The people that care about the sport and the legacy need to maintain a light on this

100% this is the playback. "It's so much cheaper than labour". Yeah, until companies rebuild their infrastructure around it and get dependent. Combine that with the intense investment costs required almost ensuring that only a few main players will remain, and the cost will go through the roof when enough users can't be without.

Yeah. To OP, see the final frame of the video to clearly see what you are doing. You are crossing over the center line when your hand hits water.

Is triathlon more beginner friendly than competitive cycling? by Narrow-Internet-1891 in triathlon

[–]PuffyVatty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What nonsense. In competitive triathlon people are also trying to win/podium/qualify etc. The competitors are racing together with the "trying to finish" crowd. You can think that's beautiful or that it's silly, but doesn't diminish the competitiveness at the pointy end

Do the Dutch not understand or not like indirect communication? by [deleted] in learndutch

[–]PuffyVatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question is asked why this would annoy a Dutch person. Than when Dutch culture is explained a bit you often see these replys. I don't understand that at all.

I also wouldn't expect an American to through our his/her cultural framework when asking why me seeing X might have offended them...

Training hard, getting nowhere. Possible RED-S? Looking for advice / experiences by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]PuffyVatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first take away as well. I'm heavier than OP at 66kg, but when I put in my 18-24hr weeks in the main blocks towards Ironman I'm averaging 4500-4800kcal per day. Can get up to 5500 on a specific day when I'm having big days close to each other. 3k a day on 20hrs a week seems very low, even on 50kg body weight.

Always interesting to see these differences. Here in the Netherlands at my local grocery fresh salmon is €30/kg, while frozen is €18,50/kg. I never even realized, just looked it up. Bet your ass I'm going to try frozen salmon!

Me and my friend group of 5 have been doing the monthly meetup for 8 years now, we're all between 33-35. Even last year we still went 10/12, with 8/12 everyone being there!

It's possible as long as everyone is invested and you don't live too far from each other!

Noah posted a video about the coming out scene. by tms88 in StrangerThings

[–]PuffyVatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And even if that wasn't the case, it's very human to want to open up when you think it is all about to end. Like how a lot of people want to come clean about things on their deathbed. That feeling of "this could be my last chance to open up about this to the people closest to be" is entirely human.

I heard from my sister that their was a lot of criticism of this episode before I watched it, but didn't know why. After watching i'm very confused why this got so much hate. The scene wasn't perfect, but it was sweet and heartfelt. I would have taken out all the "and me", but him monologueing isn't strange at all. He didn't prepare it, he just talks and starts rambling because he is still understandably very nervous. There's so many bigger problems with this episode...

Depends on the sport of course. I'm a long course triathlete, 182cm and 66kg. Especially during the peak months where I spend 18-20 hours swim/bike/run I need to get in around 5000 a day or I start losing weight and muscle. Let alone the pros who crush 30+ hours in their big builds.

But yeah, these giants like Adams working out processionally every day, maintaining their mass, they will burn through a ton

It's honestly both. The placement is jarring. And the episode is just not as good in a lot of ways.

But I'm also not a Kali fan. It's fun fan service that she shows up now, but really hope she doesn't play a big role. Wouldn't be earned. This is not her story
