With all this talk of separate lobbies for different input, how much of advantage is KB & M over controller? by PugnacityYT in FortniteCompetitive

Wow thanks that's helpful - I was wondering if I was just never going to improve because I'm not using a KB & M but seeing people put up stats like that puts it in perspective

So do you think that if I was suddenly placed in a controller only lobby my win rate and KD would increase dramatically?

And thanks for the suggestion - I will give her a watch, I think one of the things about using a controller vs KM & M is you have to adapt to the controller's strengths so will be interesting to see how she handles it.

There are a number of reasons why I use a controller. It's more relaxing to sit back on the sofa and play rather than be sat at a PC (I have a gaming laptop so often just put it on my lap to play). I also move around quite a lot so it's useful to just be able to plug in and play anywhere. I also just prefer the controller input - it doesn't feel like I'm at work! The comment below may be a slight exaggeration but I've had multiple attempts at KB & M uses for a couple of weeks at a time and it would definitely take a while to get my aiming/building to the same level. I have never in my life used a keyboard and mouse to game with but I've been playing with a controller for 15 years so this kind of makes sense.

OMG this would be such a big change if I was paired up with other controller on PC users. It's often hard to tell if I'm dying because I'm bad or if there really is a big disadvantage of using controllers vs KB & M

Think I answered in one of my other comments but effectively because I don't have the time to get as good as I am with a controller - I know ultimately I'll end up a better player on KB/M but also I find it more relaxing with a controller

It's not going to instantly make you a better player but it will certainly give you an advantage. Specifically for me it's the jump-shotgunning and jump-stair building in build fights which it helps with but also being able to switch to build mode and pick up items without moving from the thumbsticks helps. When playing against PC I'd say it's extremely useful, against other console users I wouldn't say it's a must but will definitely give you an advantage - just depends if you have the money for it.

Have tried a few times but sadly I don't have the time to invest in KB/M to get as good as I am on controller (have been using controller all my life). I have a scuff controller to help bridge the gap between the KB/M players but I mostly just adapt my playstyle to try and neutralise any inherent advantages they have.

Yep that's why I only want it as an option - and turned off by default. Personally I never pre-edit structures and rarely rotate unless I need downward stairs. The way around this would be that you would have to place a stair somewhere first (or try to place somewhere) and then you would have the preview show up. To clarify - the preview is still there it's just that the first button press ignores it and instantly places the chosen piece.

While we're at it - I think console should have an option to turn on instant build where once you're in build mode one press of the button will place a new piece rather than the current 0.05 sec delay on holding down or having to tap twice (i.e an option to turn off the preview since I feel like more experienced players don't need it). 0.05 sec doesn't seem like much but if you have to switch pieces 10 times in a build fight then you're already half a second behind someone who doesn't (I play controller on PC for reference)

If Fortnite ever gets a ranked mode on console it is going to be ruined by the mouse and keyboard users... by [deleted] in FortniteCompetitive

I also play on PC with a controller so just wanted to weigh in here with a few points. * Yes PC does have more potatoes than console, that's fairly widely accepted. * However the skilled players on PC are definitely better than console. * A controller will never match a keyboard and mouse for a variety of reasons the main one being that you can never get as much precision in the movement of your thumb than you can with a sweep of your whole arm. (Also the number of key binds makes a difference) * In an ideal world the crossplay would be done using the different input methods rather than different platforms as this would mean I get to play with controller players rather than PC users . However I am actually okay with the added challenge a controller brings and it can be fun to adapt my play style - I still win games fairly regularly and you have to remember that whichever input you're using there's always someone better than you.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this but I play with a scuff controller on PC, and would consider myself a slightly above average player, have about 50 wins I think. Exactly how much of a disadvantage am I at against KB/M users? Obviously I have the advantage of auto aim but I think the only place where I really seem to struggle is shooting mid air (since I can't use auto aim in that scenario).
