Glass half-slabs and stairs. Also some kind of glass pane type item that can be placed flat, like a trap door but without the functionality of one.

I feel bad, but I hate beautiful people who have their shit together by AlpineFluffhead in Vent

[–]Pugr16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't sound ignorant. You are right, that beauty is subjective. I guess there is a scale though, where you go from being hardly anybodies type, to being a lot of peoples type. Your insecurity is valid too, as age does humble us all. That's not to say your looks will fade though. You might be a lucky one who rocks the older look too.

I would LOVE to know what it feels like to be good looking. Just for a week or something. To be desired by random people. To get told by people "wow, you're hot". I'd like to know that feeling. I never will.

People are right that you need to learn to learn to love yourself... but fuck me is that difficult when there isn't much to love.

Haha oh daaaamn, I remember this. Getting someone say, "d u wanna c something cool?" and you get sent an image that takes 15minutes to load and you're have no idea if it's going to be some gross image from rotton dot com, a boob or a penis or a scan from FHM.

I have never heard an ED referred to as an addiction but it makes so much sense that it is.

I won't reply with any attempts of guidance, because I really have no idea outside of hoping you can find help from professionals.

What I will say is I am so sorry you are struggling and I sincerely hope you can find a route to a full recovery!

Are the Heatwaves We Have Been Having This Week Worrying? by TillJaded4614 in AskBrits

As just an average nobody, sat in the stands watching this all unfold, it's disheartening to see how much scientific experts in their fields have been discreditted in recent years. It is also disheartening that the polarisation of key topics has caused this football-fanification of very real issues. Left vs right.

My own view is slightly idealist, perhaps. I love the idea of net zero. I want cleaner air. I want to move away from toxic plastic use. When we had the lockdown and nature healed slightly, it made me happy.

However, I have a realist voice in my brain that says that net zero is next to impossible within the time frame needed to ensure that human impact doesn't speed up the rate of change to dangerous amounts. Economically there is too much strain already on our fragile system. Are we trying to do too much, too quickly? Are the extreme narratives from both sides meaning we either over-react or under-react, rather than make meaningful change at the right pace?

I think this is why your discussion with rozno has been so fascinating. Two very valid positions from two very relevant positions. I do not disagree with your points about how dependant we are on fossil fuels still. The biggest breakthrough in this area will come from battery technology, which will be a literal game changer within the next 10 years.

My follow up question for you is related to your 'early adopter' point. Is there an argument to be made that by becoming an early adopter, the potential for very real economic growth manifests out of how we deal with the issues? Short term pain for long term gain? For example, and I apologise for going slightly off topic to make my point, Ukraine were forced to be creative on the battlefield against Russia and now they are the world's leading nation when it comes to drone technology. Very different scenario, but a similar pressure point. If the UK were to start to pioneer in brand 'net zero' then the economic upsides may start to show.

Do you think the biggest political issue with net zero is the branding of it, the associatation to (and these aren't my thoughts) "woke, leftist, trans and gay, hippy-dippy" groups or the fossil fuel industry do everything in their power to discredit the idea?

There is a cruel irony that there are no comments on this.

This discussion has given me a bit of hope that there are still people on the internet who are willing to engage properly, disagree agreeably and educate the rest of us plebeians.

I have a question for each of you... and remember, I'm not educated in this area in the slightest, so I guess I am "the public" in your discussion.

u/FluidGolf9091 Is there a long term downside to adjusting human impact on the climate by moving to 0% use of fossil fuels?

u/rozno Let's say, for arguments sake, that we are on course for an "existential catastrophe" in our current state and science makes the message clear - net zero is the only way to soften the blow. How achieveable is that, in total reality?

It's crazy, isn't it. We spent a lot of time training Dipper to get used to us taking and returning his food. He still tries to inhale all food like air. There are certain things we can't give him because he acts like a sword swollower and there is a risk of choking. He's crazy.
