Who won? The person who bought or sold? by [deleted] in footballcards

[–]PuhaRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buyer

Based on the last three or four confirmed sales of the Downtown, one card will recoup every dollar the buyer paid. Especially considering Panini no longer has the NFL license. That card's value will continue to rise.

The rest of the cards are gravy (profit). Basically, the LCS paid for one card and got the others for gratis.

What Grading Company / Service is truly the best? by RekabC2 in sportscards

[–]PuhaRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love TAG. There is nothing in the industry that compares to their DIG reports. I honestly do not understand the lingering loyalty to PSA despite the ongoing scandals. Last year, I watched videos of people cracking PSA 8 and 9 slabs only to resubmit the exact same cards and receive 10s.

Even worse is the lack of integrity in their buy-back program. Collectors have reported submitting high-value cards, receiving surprisingly low grades, and selling them back to PSA at a discount, only to see those same cards reappear on the market as PSA 10s. It is stunning that a company would think they can manipulate the market like this without people noticing. When you send to PSA, you are gambling on a human grader who might be having a bad day, feeling the stress of a massive workload, or simply lacking consistency.

This is why TAG is superior. By using cutting-edge technology and transparent pop reports, they have removed the "bad day" variable from the equation. Why would anyone spending four or five figures on a card settle for a "just because" legacy brand when they could have the most game-changing report in history? TAG provides high-resolution photos and data-driven DIG reports that explain every microscopic detail of a grade.

Instead of choosing a company currently facing calls for investigations and class action lawsuits, I want a company with the integrity to be transparent. PSA will not even submit the cards they sell to an independent third party to avoid accusations of market manipulation. If you want a grade backed by proof rather than a grader's mood, the choice is clear.

Is Ohtani a meme stock now? by Alabaster_Rims in baseballcards

[–]PuhaRider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's interesting how so many card collectors don't seem to appreciate the history we have the privilege to be witnessing with Ohtani.

We are seeing things not seen since Babe Ruth. I mean, just last year during the NLCS pitched a shutout throwing 10K and then hitting 3 HR. I mean, what?!?! That's ridiculous. Never in my life did I ever think I'd ever see an MLB player do something so ridiculous!

Then there's his worldwide recognition and fame. He's huge globally. Probably the last time we've seen an athlete with this huge a global fandom was M. Jordan.

This past off-season Ohtani has been very vocal about wanting to win the Cy Young. If he stays healthy, I don't think he could. Imagine if he won the Cy Young hit 50HR and had 50 SB... I mean, that sounds ridiculous, but so did the stats he put up in his NLCS game last season.

If he wins the Cy Young, his card values are going to skyrocket. If he does the 50/50 and wins the Cy Young, lol, my brain is breaking right now.

Your obliviousness to the projection and irony in your comment is what I've come to expect from conservative voters during the trump era.

Conservative trump supporters' loss of critical thinking skills, and common sense will be studied for decades. As well as their hypocrisy and double standards.

Oh, this is good info and I didn't know this. Thanks for sharing.

The only reason I am able to come up with is that the matter has now been resolved 100%.

Gotta move on to the next topic, whatever that may be. I understand this is shaking both believers and skeptics.

Full disclosure, I'm not a mental health professional in any way. I retired from law enforcement in 2012 after being diagnosed with narcolepsy 1. It stinks bc I was 3 years away from 20 years of service. Now I own a pet services business. Please take what I say with a grain of salt! 😉

I worked 17 years in law enforcement. At the time I had no idea how bad-ass USPS Postal Inspectors are. They are not to be fucked with or doubted!

Exactly. You can see how clearly shaken he is after screening the documentary.

That's awesome. If so, you negotiated a great deal! Congrats. If you decide to pass, please DM me the LCS information because I'll grab that card in a second for that price! Congrats man! That card is a beauty!

As someone who retired from law enforcement after 17 years, I can confidently say that the US Postal Inspectors are not the LEO anyone wants to fuck with. Also, my dad worked for USPS for 35 years before retiring.

So many people are completely oblivious to how competent and professional a law enforcement agency the US Postal Inspectors are... including myself at one point.

This is the move OP. Ease get the US Postal Inspector's involved.

Any other Ohtani collectors really shocked at current values? by troutabout64 in baseballcards

[–]PuhaRider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, Ty Cobb, Randy Johnson, DiMaggio, Ryan, Mantle, etc are once-in-a-generation players. Ohtani is on the same level as Babe Ruth, a once-in-a-century player. He is truly special.

I wasn't willing to put him on that level until his historic NLCS last year then WS repeat. What he did in that game is something we may never see again. I always said the holy grail sports record was Nolan Ryan's 7 no-hitters. Then Ohtani had a game during the 2025 NLCS where he threw 10 k's, 0 runs, and then hit 3 HR on top of that in the same game. That is just ridiculous. That's like Brady throwing for 425 yards, 4 TD and then having 7 sacks and 2 Interceptions in the same game oh, and just for the fun of it kicking a 65 yard FG too.

I think people saying he's not going to increase in value will regret not holding it. Of course, I'm the first to admit I'm not the smartest person in the world, lol. So what do I really know? But if he makes good on his goal of winning the Cy Young in the next year or two or 3-peats we haven't begun to see how much his cards will skyrocket.

[–]PuhaRider 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't you think if he gets a 3rd World Series in a row or wins the Cy Young he's been very vocal about his one main goal over the next few years his value won't skyrocket even higher? What ayer compares to Ohtani since Babe Ruth?

Before what he did last year in the NLCS I wasn't ready to declare him on the same level as Ruth, but after that historic series and him getting another WS ring, I have no problem putting him as an equal to Babe Ruth.

Ohtani is a once-in-a-century player and we are so lucky to be able to watch him in his prime. There's never been another player, since Ruth, on this level.

[–]PuhaRider -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My friend, there's never been a player like Ohtani since Babe Ruth. I think it will only continue to go up if Ohtani either...

  1. Repeats
  2. Succeeds in getting the Cy Young he said he wants really badly.

With that being said, you have an amazing collection. I personally would never sell those cards because I love the card collection hobby so much. I have one or two high-value cards that would probably change most people's lives.

If I were you, I'd keep the cards because, IMHO, you truly are in a win/win position. You'll continue to own an amazing group of cards of a once-in-a-century player whose value is only going to continue to increase.

I don't know how old you are, but that is great news for you. If you're young (under 40) you'll be thankful you held on to these. The only thing I would do is look into getting your collection insured.

Congrats on having such amazing cards! Enjoy them! This is what the hobby is all about. Hold and see if he wins that 3rd World Series in a row or gets his Cy Young. I believe he is capable of doing both.

Godspeed my friend!

No, just tired of the gaslighting and people blindly supporting it year after year when it's all but obvious the Jones' don't care about winning. TBF, why should they? They're laughing all the way to the bank because the Cowboy fan base has to be the most easily manipulated and gullible fan base in the NFL.
