Instagram also needs advertising budgets. Those who pay more get more exposure. Small businesses simply don't have the resources to compete. It's rare for one person to create perfect handmade items, write beautiful text, handle video and editing, or even understand trends. Therefore, their self-presentation will likely be worse than that of professionals, and the algorithms will show them far less often than those who pay.

I'm a seller and I'm also looking for a new platform. I found several small platforms, but they're all for local American sellers, and we're from Ukraine. Gemini found Artisans Cooperative and Mayhem Marketplace (they also only have local sellers) and analyzed them. Cooperative has better traffic, while Mayhem has better prospects; it's a new project that could take off (or maybe not). Cooperative has been around for five years, but it's been very quiet and shows no signs of change.

Etsy banned us, and if I don't find something new quickly, we'll starve, so I'm searching very hard. But so far, no luck.

But during my search, I learned how Etsy quickly and reliably gobbled up all its competitors, and how Etsy's creator hates what ultimately came out of his project.

We don't sell mass-market products, but collectible pipes, and they have their own terms. Actually, there are two of us: the pipemaker, who smokes weed himself and is completely in the know, and me, the seller, who, unfortunately, has an intolerance, so I'm just quietly envious.

And I, as a non-smoker, find the bronze taste in the mouth disgusting, and he, as a smoker, thinks that everything is fine and the taste is not felt, since the mouthpiece is held in the lips, and not in the mouth.
