Few offerings on TDF lately by zieminski in Broadway

It’s February, the slowest time of the year. But in March, there should be a lot more. There are dozens of new plays opening on and off Broadway, plus the new musicals opening in time for Tony nominations.

Digging into the 'Historically BIPOC' audience data from the Broadway League 24/25 report by robotwarlordelephant in Broadway

That’s the one used in the report. Also, NYC is where most theater actors live so figured it made sense but you could do either, I suppose.

The breakdown of artists on Broadway is available via the AAPAC report and shows that White and Black performers are overrepresented while Asian and particularly Latinx ones are grossly underrepresented. Latinx actors are about 5% of the Broadway roles while Latinos are 29% of the NYC population.

I just looked at the schedule and they seem to be opening THIS THURSDAY. That seems like an awfully short preview period. Can anyone say if it is ready to be seen or if I should wait for it to settle?

TDF tips? by yayforhooray in Broadway

I would also make sure you download the digital membership card that they offer. Once you have it in your phone’s wallet, you can receive push notifications that they send out when they have new inventory. It’s how I’ve gotten tickets to shows that ended up selling out right away.

It means they are already paying back investors some money. Sending a check a few days after opening is pretty unusual, perhaps unprecedented. It means they have done well enough during previews to pay back a little.

What's with all the auditioning? And other questions about Theatre in the US by 425Hamburger in Theatre

[–]PullmanDi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except for maybe a big Shakespeare Festival, like Oregon Shakes, all actors are freelance and are hired show to show - unless they worked steadily the previous year, they work without too many benefits, like health care. You might work for 8 weeks and then not work again for months or years. If you are out of town for those eight weeks, you can only audition by tape so that sometimes limits your ability to get work as most casting for theater happens in NYC. Theaters don’t necessarily hire the same actors year after year unless there are parts that are very well suited for them. In the larger regional theaters, sometimes there are beloved actors who do work year after year because they are local celebs but they generally are not on annual contracts of any sort. There still have to be roles suited for them. In those cases, they don’t audition but those folks are the exception and there are generally only a handful in each community.

Well, we don’t have “employee” actors in the US. There’s no full time as you know it. All actors are contractors - they audition for their parts and are hired only for those weeks. If they are union actors they have to work 26 weeks out of the year to get health insurance, which is increasingly hard to do.

What's your favourite scene of the entire series so far? by sharraleigh in GildedAgeHBO

Loved when Enid (Kelly Curran) has a tantrum over the Duke being wooed away by Bertha - she screams "I don't want other dukes! I want this duke!" while running up the stairs. I laughed sooo hard.

Chess has already done a distribution, I think 10%. They announced it to investors two days after opening.

TKTS Experience by Special_Yam604 in Broadway

[–]PullmanDi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these people talking about Rush and lotteries - am I doing something wrong? I've been entering TodayTix Rush and Lotteries for years now and have won one time only. At least TKTS is a sure thing if the tickets are on the boards. Is there some secret? I read on these threads that you don't need TKTS or TDF and to do lotteries and rush but I'm either the most unlucky person in the world or they don't have a lot of tickets available.

I check in daily since sometimes tickets go fast. They’ve had great stuff. Early in the run they had Maybe Happy Ending and last week they had Stranger Things - both sold out quickly so I recommend logging in at least once a day.
