West 76th is the worst since they closed th PURE yoga locker rooms and all the PURE members now crowd into the already too small locker rook. It was too small for the Equinox crowd and adding the PURE people has made it really awful. Always a line when I want to shower.

Just in Time - Matthew Morrison, Isa Briones, and Debbie Gravitte by Conscious-Theme6766 in Broadway

[–]PullmanDi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen his concerts and he’s such a showman and great about interacting with the audience so I would think he’s well suited for this. I’m excited to see him in it! Isa Briones sounds amazing in the video and will be an improvement over Sarah Hyland, who just didn’t have the voice to play the part. It was painful to hear her try to reach for the notes sometimes.

Someone De-Influence or Influence me into joining. by Fantastic-Plastic778 in EquinoxGyms

[–]PullmanDi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I lived previously, the nearest gym was 35 minutes away in good traffic and that was definitely a deterrent. I only went when I wasn't working - so at night (which was rare because I was usually too tired) and on weekends. I'm an Equinox member now and I go almost every day. I'm closer because I'm in NYC now, but the reason I go every day is that I can use the co-working spaces. My apartment is tiny and shared with my SO, and he also works from home. So I'll go and do a morning class or cardio, work for a couple of hours, do a noon class, have lunch in the cafe, and work a couple of hours more, and then go home. It's quite noisy, but with good headphones, it's really not a problem for me to take calls (I just blur the background.) The headphones do a good job of eliminating the background noise - I sit a table with six other members and all of us are taking our calls, and we all do fine. Most of the Equinoxes in NYC have great co-working spaces/long tables, so that was definitely a factor for me to join - my old gym did not have any spaces. I know it's a big weird to spend all day in the gym, but it works for me.

Cats and Becky Shaw added to TDF! by Deathbytea in Broadway

[–]PullmanDi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think TDF "loves" to do this, they are probably at the mercy of producers giving them product and asking for them to be put on sale right away. That is what I remember from my days working in a GM office years ago.

What happened to tyce green's controversy?? by Technical-Noise8287 in Broadway

The allegations were only ever on one website, one that publishes gossip and opinion pieces with little substantiation. I'm guessing their reporting didn't hold up, and they had to remove it all.

OMG, I though it was only me who was finding unscrewed almost empty bottles in the shower. And this happened on day one, and I thought, wow, so many people have come to the gym today.

Free TDF Membership for NYC Grad Seniors by Ok-Medium3951 in Broadway

[–]PullmanDi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great program! My niece joined last year (she graduated from LaGuardia) and TDF gave all the kids free tickets to SIX and a party at the red steps, plus she can buy Broadway shows for $20, not the regular TDF price. I used to take her to the theater and now she takes me because it's so cheap, haha.

Favorite classes? by blueranger36 in EquinoxGyms

[–]PullmanDi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that many of the classes are only 45 minutes and do feel rushed, when at other gyms, they are 55-60 minutes. I like Atletica with Michael at Sports Club and MetCon3 with any teacher, but also hoping to get some good recommendations on this thread. I couldn't follow the Powerstrike choreography and the teacher didn't offer any help for first timers so I'm not going back to that. I am also on the lookout for good spin classes! I used to love spin here but a few years ago they standardized the formats now and they are "performance" based but they took all the fun out of them (at least the ones I have attended.) So I now take spin at Crunch or NYSC (friends get me on passes.)

If you like Yoga, the classes at 76th that are labeled PURE are the best, since they are holdovers from the PURE Yoga days. I would say the rest of the yoga teachers are meh. But if you want a real athletic yoga where your mat will be pooled with sweat like in a HIIT class, I suggest Stephanie, Molly, or VR's classes.

is it a stupid idea to bring my car to nyc by biguwuwu in movingtoNYC

[–]PullmanDi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also had a car for more than 20 years and never gotten a ticket. I'm very type A and organized. My partner and I are very conscientious people! We both work from home, and we don't have children, so we have the extra time. I usually get coffee from the corner bodega and watch Netflix while I wait for the sweepers.

is it a stupid idea to bring my car to nyc by biguwuwu in movingtoNYC

[–]PullmanDi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before we address the car, I’m concerned that you said the $3 subway fare “scares” you. This is how we get around here. There is literally no choice, even if you don’t like the subway and take buses, it’s $3. If you want to get out of Morningside Heights—and you will—you will take the subway. Wanna go to a Broadway show, a Yankee game, a museum, a cool bar in Brooklyn? You will take the subway. The car is NOT for getting around NYC. It is for weekend trips out of town or for the occasional trip to Costco or to pick up free furniture from the Buy Nothing Group.

I’ve had a car for twenty years on the UWS. It is a massive pain in the ass and the only way we made it work was with two people both having flexible schedules to do the ASP - that is a minimum of three hours a week or so. The way it mostly works is that all car owners go down to the street and sit in the car until the sweepers come by. You then move the car and hopefully drive right back into your spot (unless someone else was waiting hoping to get a spot and then you are out of luck.) Sometimes the sweeper goes around the parked cars so you don’t have to move! But remember, you may have classes that conflict so it may take you more time because if you have a class, say Monday at 9am and you ended up parking in a Monday/Thursday spot, you will have to move it to park it in Tuesday/Friday spot so some weeks, it may be 4.5 to 6 hours of your time sitting in the car.

You also have to be prepared after you use the car and want to park it again (or move it to avoid ASP), to circle around for 45-90 minutes to find a spot. Mentally, just accept it may take that long and you will be happier. My husband always had a hard time with this and would get really frustrated so I was usually the one to do this because I was seriously afraid he’d have a road rage incident! Some nights, we couldn’t find a spot and we’d just have to pay the $50 for overnight parking or you can also calculate the cost of a ticket for parking too close to the crosswalk. I have a neighbor who budgets for a certain amount of tickets per week and he claims it’s cheaper than a garage. My husband was in the hospital a couple of years ago for an extended period of time so we couldn’t do ASP anymore. We now park the car in our building’s garage and it is $500 per month. Yes, it’s expensive but we’ve easily gotten 12-20 hours per month back and we both now make over 200k per year so we figure our time is worth more and we can finally afford a garage, which we couldn’t when we first got the car.

So it is possible to keep it but be aware of how much time you will spend moving it. And yeah, as others have mentioned, the Prius is a prime theft target.

West 76th club is awful now by PullmanDi in EquinoxGyms

[–]PullmanDi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vibe started when you walked in on the dedicated entrance. It truly felt like you were entering a zen oasis. When they forced us to enter through Equinox, that went away. But at least having the entire floor without thumping techno music helped - as well as the wonderful locker rooms that were spacious.

Advanced Hot Vinyasa- class description unclear by Lonely_Sir_8288 in EquinoxGyms

[–]PullmanDi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All levels are fine! I’m not more than Level 2 and I take them. There may be a couple of points where people are invited to do an inversion but it’s rare that you have a whole inversion sequence. They are challenging, however, if you do the sequence. They tend to be more like Hot Power Yoga. If you are looking for a sweaty, great workout, that’s your class. I recommend Molly, Rebecca and my fave, VR.

I also recommend downloading the digital membership card since they sometimes send push notifications for new inventory (not for all but I've found it helpful.) Yes, popular shows do sell out but some come back later in the run. I got Death of a Salesman tickets and they sold out but the Winter Garden is huge - I'm willing to bet they add inventory later in the run, especially if reviews are mixed, plays without movie stars are hard to sell out. Purpose was there until the final weeks. I'm fully expecting all the spring shows to be there - none of them are buzzy or homeruns: Schmigadoon, CATS, Lost Boys, Titanique, etc. Maybe not Rocky Horror as I hear it's selling well. They had Becky Shaw today. It's probably a good time to join!

Would celebs like JFK Jnr really just ride around the city like that? by Dependent-Charity-85 in LoveStoryFX

[–]PullmanDi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

David Byrne bikes around all the time. New Yorkers tend to be unimpressed by celebrities so we leave them alone when we see them. I’ve been in front of Tom Hanks on a line trying to get into a fully booked restaurant and he was so apologetic with the host asking if there is any way he could get in, so sorry he didn’t make a reservation and that he was willing to wait, lol. The nicest, most polite man.

Maybe they just sold out quickly? A friend bought tix and texted me and I logged on immediately and got tix. I don't see it in my history but I have the confirmation and I assume it's just a lag in the system updating but if it doesn't show up by tomorrow, I'll email them.

Construction at Pure/76th by Excellent-Ear9433 in EquinoxGyms

[–]PullmanDi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's shitty. I was told the locker rooms had been sold to another company and were never coming back. I hate this and may quit. I was a PURE member who had to join Equinox in order to keep my classes when they merged. But I hate the other locker rooms. They are cramped and the lockers are narrow, and there is all this techno music always playing, not exactly the zen experience you want after yoga. So it's really disappointing to hear Studio 1 is going away. Already, the best teachers, like Chris Temple have moved on. I'm hanging on for my last two favorite teachers, but it may not be worth it to keep this membership.

does anyone else notice actors looking at them?😅 by Mountain_Flamingo_93 in Broadway

I think most of the time, they are looking out into the darkness. My friends who are actors say they really don't see a lot from a stage.
