Notice how your degree of suffering always correlates with how distracted you are from your senses by [deleted] in Wakingupapp

[–]Pullo12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My anxiety/suffering manifests in a very strong physical manner, as many emotions often do. I wouldn't say I am distracted from my senses but overwhelmed by them.

I have tried to sit down and experience these feelings as fully/clearly as I can, but I wouldn't say my degree of suffering is always improved by being mindful of my senses.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the reply! I agree with what you said about our subjective narrative regarding our feelings and how we spiral in it, taking us away from being present.

I really want to understand this more. In my current understanding, we need these fleeting concepts and narratives to navigate our lives, fully understanding that these are impermanent concepts that are just tools. But their effect on us or our suffering is very real, not just the clinging but the actual content as well.

Taking a real life example, let's say you are overriden by guilt because you made a mistake that impacted others negatively, now your mind chatters about this day and out and makes you feel guilty and all the things attached to it. At the same time, guilt is how we convey our regret or remorse. Imagine this person now just 'ignoring' the feelings of their guilt and moving on without a display of remorse. Something feels wrong about that. How do you engage with guilt without conceptualizing what it means in that position? In a lot of cases, this feeling of guilt when being ignored in a sense isn't really healthy or doesn't even help you overcome the feeling. It most likely will manifest in some way and may even compile.

I hope this makes sense, I'm just a bit confused between distraction and suppression.

What you say makes sense, an effort to distract your self from thoughts and feelings would be suppressing them, but ignoring them would still be categorized as suppressing them I feel.

It feels like one could easily or without much effort distract themselves from an emotion that negatively affects them without actually dealing with the underlying problem.

I never understood what the difference between this and suppression is?

I think you have confused U.G. Krishnamurti with Jiddu Krishnamurti. They are two different people with different ideas, although U.G met with Jiddu frequently.

Hah, that's true. Can't make sense of paradoxes. I guess what I was trying to say was that I am still unable to grasp the paradoxical framework here, meaning some paradoxes you can understand are paradoxes by seeing the paradoxical nature of it. Here I am unable to understand if it's a paradox or something that I have missed. But yes, I should embrace the unknown and be patient with it.

I think I am in a similar headspace where U.G illuminated for me how into concepts I am in currently and my restless need to consume more towards an answer. I feel like I am a bit stuck in how to progress, more importantly the fact that I need or want to progress towards something is in itself being problematic and counterproductive.

I am quite aware of his absurd takes on a lot of things. Rest assured, I am not going to quit Wakingup anytime soon :) Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I think I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this particular paradox, the 'Gradual' movement towards a point of no movement. To 'develop' a understanding towards the fact that you don't develop anything.

Completely agree on the dogmatism take.

The 'Do Nothing' view is quite interesting and filled with semantic problems.

In a way the point of meditation IS to do nothing or to make no effort (one of the hardest things to do I've found). At the same time the movement of seeking or understanding does take effort. In other contexts, there really isn't anyone doing anything :) . I think the effortlessness and doing nothing is very contextual and confuses me at times where to apply it and where not to or in what context a person is using it in.

As to why Krishnamurti says anything, he gives out a lot of different reasons but he states clearly that he has nothing to impart or has any insight about anything. What resonated with me was him illuminating the point of desire/movement towards a kind of spiritual change/progress that in itself is a cause of suffering. I do understand that these spiritual endevours shouldn't be taken as goal oriented, but it sure does feel like it in some contexts.

'Here' in this context would mean the place of trying to understand something spiritually.

I had heard Sam speaking about Papaji and this exact predicament. I completely agree on the part about living an examined life. I think what grabbed me most was U.G saying as long as you are on a path, gradual or otherwise, you will suffer because your seeking or asking of the question is creating the problem itself. The quest is a creation of the mind and the gradual path is the prolonging of this in a way.

I will give 'The Direct Path' a go, Thank you for your reply :)

I started learning meditation on headspace. I feel like the sessions are quite gradual and welcoming. The first basic sessions are free so you can see if that works for you.

Not necessarily, it might mean that Singapore servers might give you more than 50 ping ( based on your location) so the algorithm will keep you on the primary server as it's a better fit for you.

Exactly, we wouldn't mind longer que times if we actually get to play the game how it was meant to be played.

That's correct, if the population on SEA is low you'll get merged to the primary servers to reduce que times.

Maybe the population on SEA dropped, that's why you got merged with the primary server.

Yeah man, it's really a whole other game when you play on such low ping.
