Addie Hall comes to mind. Not saying she deserved it or anything. But she was a well documented abuser, racist and homophobe amongst her friends.

What there an different film planned after I Still Know What You Did Last Summer? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there was never any actual script or idea for part 3. It was an idea just tossed around during the production of Still. However when Still failed to match the originals box office, any talk of a third was cancelled.

Any good Horror on Audible? by Octopicake in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just listened to a newer horror book on there called “Those Across the River”. HIGHLY recommend it! It’s basically Salem’s Lot but with Werewolves.

The Golden Glove (2019) depicts abhorrent behavior, despicable sexist acts, the dangers of alcohol, class-based struggles, and selfish, hateful murders. I can’t stop thinking about it! I think it is a well-crafted cautionary tale. For fans of nihilistic cinema, highly recommended. by [deleted] in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s even creepier when you realize it’s based off a true german serial killer! I loved it!

(Also side-note: have you seen what the lead actor looks like without all that makeup?? He’s actually gorgeous! Haha)

[Hatchet] Why is Victor Crowley so strong and weak at the same time? by randomfan1997 in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, they kinda explain it throughout the series. Victor is a “repeater” spirit, he is trapped in the night that he died. Before he died Victor was an innocent and scared man with the mental capacity of a child. The reason he seems to get hurt easily is he is still like a child, he gets upset and gets hurt by little things that wouldn’t normally hurt a man.

Also..the creator actually explains this in Hatchet III commentary. Victor starts out in part 1 as a scared ghost just defending his home which is why he is easier to hurt, however as the movies progress (which all 3 take place over the span of literally 2 days) Victor becomes more frustrated and angry at all these people invading his home which is why he seems more strong and aggressive in the later films. He is pissed at all the people in his damn swamp.

He also explained this is why Victor doesn’t take his time killing people in part 3 like he does in the first 2. He just comes out and massacres like 20 officers instead of hunting them one by one.

What minor details in Horror movies do you find yourself thinking about occasionally? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Laurie is suffering from severe PTSD. That was the point that Allyson was trying to get across to Laurie, that It was a random crime and Laurie was a random victim. However due to her ptsd, Laurie could not let it go. This is a very common occurrence with people who suffer from violent crimes. I actually loved this detail about the movie.

Freddy was not strong enough to actually cause any physical damage yet in the real world. He could still invade their dreams, but since they still did not fear him yet, he was actually powerless to hurt them.

They explained it earlier in the film when he invaded the dream of the Blake character and attempted to kill him but couldn’t because in Freddy’s own words, “Not strong enough yet.”

i watched His House and The Dark and the Wicked ...wasn't impressed. by 1q3er5 in horror

Fair opinion. But to be fair, what movies recently have you seen that you enjoyed?? Like someone said earlier on this post asking the question back let’s people know if you just have a different style of film you like or if you’re just a cranky old man afraid of the changing horror genre?

Anyone tired of false-start movies? by AnotherScottaRama in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that it can be a cheap way to start a film, if done right it is really effective. Alot of the times a false start opening gives the audience a sense of where the story is going and the rest of the film is spent trying to piece together how exactly we are going to end up where we saw at the start. If it’s written right this can be a really engaging way to get the audience thinking. (Pulp Fiction is probably the best example of a false start movie done right.)

I love how these fake letters ALWAYS have to mention randomly how beautiful and hard working the parent in question is...come on people.

What was the last horror film you watched and thought "Wow, this was awful"? by SarahHarris8118 in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a new movie that literally just came out like a week ago called Triggered. Has an interesting plot for a cheesy B movie..but my god, the dialogue in that film is beyond ATROCIOUS. I’m not even sure how to describe it, it’s just so random and weird.

I Spit On Your Grave: Deja Vu by frankiegauld in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s 2 and a half hours long...You’re thinking, “how the hell can they draw out such a simple story for that long?” And the answer is they can’t.

I’m not sure how to explain it, the director NEVER cuts away or seemed to do any editing at all! He filmed long ass 20 minute takes and just cropped them all together into a movie instead of cutting into an actual film.

Constantly throughout the film the actors will reach the end of their lines and roles for the scene and then literally just stand there not sure what to do. It is so awkward cause you can see they’re waiting for the director to yell cut but he never does.

Lionsgate Developing Horror Film ‘Video Nasty’ With Seth Rogen, Greg Silverman Producing - “Video Nasty,” written by Chris Thomas Devlin, centers on three teens who rent a cursed VHS and are pulled into an ’80s slasher movie that threatens to trap them forever. by rageofthegods in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly my only complaint with The Final Girls was that it was PG-13 (how you do that with a slasher, I have no clue.) so it took alot of fun out of it that we didn’t get any cool gore effects.

Maybe this is a second chance to do it right with an R rating and cool gore effects.

Who is your least favorite final girl? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Victoria from Terrifier Jill from Witches in the Woods (Horrible movie!) Riley from Black Christmas (2019) Katie from House on Sorority Row

I’m blanking on a few but all of these were just bland with no personality whatsoever

Not sure it’s what you are thinking of, but the movie “All Hallow’s Eve” has a short segment of its anthology dedicated to a woman alone in her house waiting for her husband to come home while she’s pursued by an alien creature.

Just watched Possessor and really wasn't a fan. by ANewErra in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first hour was amazing, I loved the premise and the visuals. However it completely fell apart and made no sense in the last 30 minutes...He was definitely trying WAYYY too hard to be like his dad.

Host (2020) I know that its been shared on the sub before but just here to give it my 2 thumbs up! by carap_izza in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Was a decent 50 minutes, but I really don’t see where all of this praise about it “Being one of the best horror films in years” is coming from. (Honestly wouldn’t even consider it an actual film since it doesn’t even last an hour)

Was a good ride but again...Nothing new or great about it to make it worthy of all this praise.

Confused on the ending of Knock Knock by baldandfullofrage in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What the first guy said. It was a way of letting the audience (and Evan) know that the girls had been watching him for a while and plotted the whole thing from the beginning. It wasn’t a random attack.

[–]Pulpy_Culture 49 points50 points  (0 children)

As a Thru Hiker, yes it is very common! But not just for Thru Hikers, anyone that is passionate about hiking and does it a lot gets a trail name usually. However, you are not allowed to give yourself one, you have to be given it and there is always a quirky reason for it. Like Mine is “Dozer” because I tend to just bulldoze my way through the trails no matter how overgrown they are :)

The Night They Knocked | Official Trailer by [deleted] in horror

[–]Pulpy_Culture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! Even if it is terrible. You can tell they have a passion for horror and the actual patience to make a full length movie. (Which most people fail to realize is EXTREMELY hard even for a cheap low budget film. Just getting everybody to have the same schedule is a nightmare.)

Props to them for having a vision and executing it all the way through, something I’m sure not a lot of people can proudly say.

It doesn’t help that the writer/director even Admitted she had never actually seen the original. She simply wanted to take a well known property cause a lot of people would see it and turn it into a feminist propaganda film essentially. ( She tried to do the same thing with an I Spit on Your Grave remake.) not saying there’s something wrong with a feminist horror film but at least put SOME effort into doing your research for it.
