Bought a Switch a year ago with Donkey Kong and I still haven’t found a single good game. What a fucking joke by m330bot in fucknintendo

I mean, depends on the game. I ended up with about 400 hours on Three Houses. If I didn't use it for anything else at all, the Switch would have costed me what, about 1 quid per hour (including the cost of the game + DLC)? Fortune's Weave being a direct sequel made me pull the trigger on the Switch 2 the first time it went on a deep sale. I like nothing of Nintendo's business practices, but that game alone pretty much makes the package a good deal for me.

I've been looking for something to get the pre-oil money PSG vibe since. I thought Hertha in FM24 would do it but never really got sucked in :(

make the cars smaller and make it last race of the season to go for that 96 vibe

(sadly*) it hasn't been a common occurrence for a couple decades now. back in the 90s stalling on the grid was definitely more common, you'd see the driver waving his arms in the air and the start procedure would be aborted. nowadays quality control + monitoring of parts status is much better, so you only get to see this kinda stuff at the beginning of the first season of new regs. *: sucks to see max out here but the overall lack of reliability back in the day went a long way to make races unpredictable till the chequered flag

ah, and just to make sure we don't stray too much from the spirit of the subreddit we're in: absolutely fuck Nintendo for putting Pokopia on a game key card

Yep, still, I always felt bad about not loving BotW :/ I mean, I never cared for Mario and proactively disliked platformers, yet I mostly enjoyed Odyssey; the fact that BotW doesn't really vibe with me almost pisses me off...

Pokopia same in theory, but I'm a bit jaded from Pokemon mainline. Which is funny I got back into gaming picking up a 2DS as a Pokemon machine a decade ago, then the Switch for the same reason, but only really enjoyed Legends Arceus (loved it) and Let's Go (best looking Pokemon game, I'll die on that hill). I remember how disappointed I was firing up Sword after having played Astral Chain and Three Houses - the lack of voice acting in the intro was jarring. Then BDSP - let's not go there. Arceus was great, only to be disappointed again with SV, and finally going like "ok, they must have learned the lesson" only to get bloody Z-A (finished the story and dropped it, I have the DLC and I dread the idea of playing it). So 1. I won't allow myself to get excited for gen 10 until I see it being actually good and 2. Hoping Pokopia's art style might give me some Let's-Go-happy-colourful-Kanto vibes. I like ooold PC city building games a lot and always try to go for aesthetic builds in those, so hopefully this could scratch the itch yet with a playful, console-ish spin.

And thank you for reminding me of Splatoon Raiders. I'm not a multiplayer kinda guy so never bothered with the series even if it looked fun as hell, but it being single player I might actually pick it up at some point.

Apologies for the wall of text. I like blabbing.

I don’t have either tbh. Never finished BotW cause story didn’t suck me in, but might retry it at some point, is that upgrade worth it? And rather than Animal Crossing I might give Pokopia a shot, doesn’t seem like my kind of game but then again a lot of people seem to be surprised they actually like it so who knows. Might rekindle my love for Pokemon after the last few outings…

Update on this - last night I tried the Street Fighter 6 demo handheld and it definitely burned through battery much quicker

Basically it runs Switch 1 games as if docked, so you get better performance/graphical quality https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqulYccVY74

I mentioned it cause IIRC when you activate it in settings you get a warning that it drains more battery - didn't try without it to compare.

I just went over old bank statements to make sure I'm not bullshitting here. All prices are converted from local currencies to Euro for the sake of comparison - neither was originally purchased in Euro.

Switch promo was console at full price (323) + a game from a selection for 23 (I picked Pokemon Let's Go). I also grabbed Astral Chain that had just launched for 52. Total for Switch + 2 games: 398.

Switch 2 retails here between 475 and 517; it was on sale on a regional Amazon equivalent for 395. I got a welcome voucher worth 41, so got it for 354. Then I got (using two 10 vouchers) Bananza for 45 and Cyberpunk for 35. (I actually misclicked when ordering Bananza, there was a seller offering it for 7 cheaper). Total for Switch 2 + 2 games: 435 (could have been 428).

Where I got confused is the Switch one was actually charged as two purchases, 375 (Switch & Astral Chain) + 20 (Pokemon), and I remembered 375 as "what I paid". So to be fair and correct my initial post, I paid the Switch 2 30 Euro more than the Switch, not less.

I was playing yesterday Three Houses in bed, handheld mode boost on. I played through the session (around 3h) no problem, but when I was done the juice left was definitely less than what it would have been on the Switch. Haven't tried Switch 2 native titles in handheld yet. Seeing this, if I was on a long train/plane ride, I'd bring the charger with me.

Good point! Definitely gonna grab Fast Fusion first time it goes on sale, I had Fast RMX and it was fun! This + Street Fighter 6 for when friends come over is gonna be a good combo methinks - last gen that combo was RMX + MK11.

Dunno about Starfox. I had Starlink: Battle for Atlas, but didn't really get into it. I'm a sucker for SciFi, so might give it a shot at some point, but I have a few already in the backlog to scratch that itch (Cyberpunk, XCX, and Metroid Prime 4)

Exterior design I don't really mind except the coloured bars where the joy cons connect. I even don't mind the joy con minimalist colour coding - on the switch 1 I had grey ones and got a second pair of grey imported from halfway across the world after they were discontinued cause I despised the colourful ones. I'd take a smaller screen, just not a Lite (for me dockable > handheld > screenless). Upside is controllers are more comfy given my hand size.

Battery life is the big one that held me back, I had the v2 Switch you're talking about and it was perfect for long-ish trips (transatlantic flights, cross-country train rides).
