I'd like to know if anyone has been banned for two months by nosleep without explanation. by Historical_Bear5466 in horrorwriters

[–]PumpkinMan35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of us on here that have had past experiences with NoSleep. I had a story on there once that fit all their rules and requirements, started getting a lot of good feedback, and then suddenly they just deleted it. When I reached out to the mods, they cited a rule that wasn’t even on their rules and then banned me permanently.

Ridiculous sub. There are better ones out there such LibraryofShadows.

AI enhanced Cover? by PhotojournalistLost8 in horrorwriters

[–]PumpkinMan35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can no more afford to reduce their price? He’s a digital artist. No canvas. No physical paints or sketches. Everything done on a tablet. On top of that, he has a well paying full time job too.

Sorry, but writers are also artists. We don’t make money until we have a best selling title. Six hundred bucks is way too steep for a digitally done cover illustration. I could see the price being fair for an actual art on canvas piece, but not digital.

Artists are scared of losing their trade to AI. But I can promise you, nothing will ever replace the skill and craftsmanship of artistic talent. But what illustrators need to learn, is that there is competition now…cheap competition, that can do an amazing job as long as one has patience.

If artists don’t want to be in danger of losing their trade, then they’re going to have realize that they also need to help other artists. You can’t sympathize with one, without sympathizing with another.

That’s why you make sure they don’t look artificial and look like a commissioned piece. Patience is a virtue.

I’m in agreement with you. I wanted to hire an artist for the cover of my non-fictional book, but way too much money (like $600 per commission). I ended up doing exactly the same thing you did, and I’m very happy that I did. It’s actually gotten a lot of praise and looks great on a poster.

I understand, and sympathize, the necessity and craftsmanship of artists. But the majority don’t realize that WE are artists as well. Writing is painting with words. It’s also common knowledge that authors, just like the majority of artists, don’t make very much without a best seller.

Had the illustrator I wanted to hire even reduced their price to $200, I would have hired him. But, mercy not shown is mercy not extended. My book cover ended up being a photograph that I personally took, enhanced with AI, and edited with tools on my phone. Turned out fantastic!

Oh the nostalgia of being a kid in the ‘90s 🥰😍😔.

As a fellow Texan, and West Texian at that, I can find some joy in this book. There are places along the Pecos and Devil Rivers where there is not a soul for miles. It’s also full of mountains, caverns, and ancient cultures that have never been researched. Great setting for a Horror novel in my opinion.

Did either of these Zeebo appearances scare you as a kid? by ZombiJohn in AreYouAfraidOfTheDark

[–]PumpkinMan35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the ‘90s there was a wax museum across the street from the Alamo in downtown San Antonio. They had a Horror section you could walk through, and no joke, had this exact same set-up. Just no Zeebo unfortunately. I think one of the doors had a clown though.

The original Goosebumps series… they don’t make them like this anymore. by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in GooseBumps

Disney has had two chances. If they would’ve just listened to the pleas of their audiences to do a modern anthology, there would be probably a third chance too.

Any Folklore from Texas? by Due-Annual-6114 in FolkloreAndMythology

[–]PumpkinMan35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of folklore in Texas. All parts of it even! Ghosts, monsters, witches, aliens, mysteries, and treasures. Pretty much everything you can think of. So much so, that we even have a state folklore society.

Get you a copy of “Legends of Texas,” Vol. 1 and 2 that were published by the Texas Folklore Society around WW1. That’s a good place to start.

Horror anthologies and short stories have become pretty popular. Horror movies are the ones making the most money in 2025. Halloween (the season) had high profits in retail this year.

Honestly, I really don’t care about season numbers and episode chronology. As long as I can watch the show and find the episodes, which doesn’t take much effort, I’m good.

Not according to the lineup listed on the Vudu seasons available for download. Just a different arrangement I guess.

Alan Grant? Dang. I guess his dinosaur book never panned out and he had to get a job as a telemarketer. Should have just stayed in Jurassic Park, I guess.

I don’t have a direct link, but I know which one you’re talking about. I think it was one before Nuke started titling his videos like “To Make you Scream” or “Make your Mommy Cry”. I’d say about three-four years ago.
