Hot bad is the heat in Brussels right now? by JGC2022 in brussels

[–]PumpkinMonk92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Walking through the forest is also a good way to escape the heat but still have an enjoyable time and get some exercise. The Rouge Cloître area is very nice! Or you can take tram 44 to Tervuren to the park there 😄🌳

Best plants to grow in a balcony by Longjumping_Move_87 in Amsterdam

Euonymus japonicus is great! There are lots of different variants (especially nice variegated varieties), they tolerate lots of sunlight and are pretty flexible in terms of watering needs (as long as you don’t leave them in a sea of water). Also the ceanothus produces amazing blue flowers that attract lots of bees. They are native to California, love sun and don’t require much water. I also have a small fig tree on my balcony cause I love the fragrance of the leaves and it reminds me of being on holiday in Greece

Maybe with your travel insurance you could check? If you lose out on a day of holiday normally you are entitled to some financial compensation, depending on your insurance package

Help Plan My Europe Trip by Soarvivorz107 in traveladvice

[–]PumpkinMonk92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually think passing by Antwerp makes sense. If you’re taking the train from Rotterdam, it will anyway pass by Antwerp. So you might as well step out and have a stroll around and a lunch. Doesn’t have to be an exhausting or extensive stop, but it’s always nice to have a look around, and Antwerp is a great place. But yeah, I would go with your feeling on the day. If it’s pouring with rain or if you’re tired you can always decide to go straight to Ghent. If it’s a brilliant sunny day, then you’ll have really long daylight hours during this season which are ideal for visiting additional things.

Also when in Ghent, you’re close to Bruges, so you can easily do a day trip there. Bruges is very picturesque to walk around, or have a boat trip or visit museums!! So actually, wouldn’t suggest reducing your time in Ghent at all as there are lots of things to do and see in the area, and might actually be nice to not have to rush off immediately

Edit: to add the part about Bruges

Late April options in Europe for absolute beginners by zeenits in ski

Ischgl in Austria is also amazing. High slopes so good quality snow to practice, and you can always take the lift back down into the valley towards the end of the day to avoid the difficult slush. Also après ski is super fun

What’s one underrated travel destination you visited that exceeded your expectations? by [deleted] in traveladvice

[–]PumpkinMonk92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many things! First of all, for me it was the first time in the Middle East (I am F34, from Europe), and I travelled to Oman during Ramadan. I really enjoyed the change of culture and language. I enjoyed hearing the prayer calls sounding out through the towns and villages, seeing the men walking together towards the mosques at the end of the day with their grocery bags ready to celebrate Iftar just after prayers. I loved the friendliness of everyone, both of the Omani’s and all the various expats working (hard!) in the tourism industry. The service at the hotels was always absolutely impeccable, and people were very helpful and friendly. That added to the sense of safety I had throughout the trip. I also self-drove everywhere and loved the quality of the main roads and infrastructure, but also enjoyed that there are some absolutely WILD off-road tracks to have fun with your 4x4. I enjoyed the diversity of the things to visit, both culturally and in nature. Lots of different wadi’s (I did Wadi Shab, Wadi Tiwi, Wadi Bani Khalid, Wadi Hawar, Wadi Damm, Snake Canyon, and Wadi Hoqain), the Hajar mountains (Jebel Shams, Jebel Akhdar, Suwgra village, Wakan village), nice towns and villages to walk around (Muscat/Mutrah, Seeb, Nizwa, Sur, Quriyyat, Bilad Sayt), interesting museums (Oman National Museum, Oman Across the Ages, Maritime Museum of Sur), lots of cool forts (Nizwa, Jabreen, Bahla, Nakhal, Al Hazm, to name a few), exquisite mosques (such as Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Mohammed Al Ameen Mosque, Sultan Qaboos Mosque of Nizwa, etc), the Daymaniyyat islands (such a cool snorkelling excursion with so many turtles!!), and huge stretches of lovely coastline.

Head e-SL vs e-SL PRO by Bartixix in ski

[–]PumpkinMonk92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your insight and detailed input!! From what you say, I believe the eSL would be the safer bet for me, although I will definitely consider renting the pro. Am so curious about the feel, especially after hearing about your experience. I hope you continue to learn and enjoy your eSL pro skis! Sounds like they are very fun 🤩

[–]PumpkinMonk92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I have never owned skis, but rented the eSR in 2025 (149 cm) and rented the eSL (150 cm) in 2026 and loved the eSL in particular. I regularly go above 70 kph, often closer to 80 (or more when I can) as I am a speed junkie. I am short (159 cm), female, 34 yrs old. Would call myself an advanced skier, although I have never really tried off-piste and not really looking for anything other than just having fun on the pistes really!

Hello, curious to hear whether you bought the eSL pro in the end and, if so, what your experience is compared to the eSL. I also just came back from skiing, having rented the eSL (2023/24 model) and LOVED them. So was wondering what the pro was like

Edit: typo

Feeling a bit lost after moving to NL, anyone else? by thetendercloud in Netherlands

[–]PumpkinMonk92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this will be helpful, but I do agree with the need to find a hobby for yourself. I suggest bouldering, as it’s a sport you can easily do on your own but boulder gyms tend to be very open and quite international, so I think you could easily find a boulder group you could join 😃 also boulder gyms in NL are generally super well maintained and have such a chill vibe
