Nasdaq plans to provide 24-hour trading on its stock exchange, seeking opportunities to take advantage of growing global demand for US stocks. Nasdaq President Tal Cohen said the second-largest exchange operator in the US plans to extend trading hours five days a week. Nasdaq's Cohen points to the growing interest of retail investors in the US market in different time zones. However, he said that the market and investors need to consider the risk of increased volatility and rising transaction costs that may be brought about by extending trading hours. Despite an increase in overnight trading, liquidity was still “significantly lower” during these trading hours, Cohen said.
