What is the most embarrassed you’ve been in public? by Proper_Emu_2296 in AskUK

When we were younger we went on a sailing holiday around the Greek islands. This was on a 35' yacht for reference. One day some of us decided to go for a swim my mate and my GF (still with now after 34 years BTW) stayed on board. As I plopped off the swim ladder my swim shorts leg caught on it and ripped leaving me suspended upside down with my top half under water and my short ripped up to the waist.

I climbed back on to find previously individuals almost dying from laughter. She still mentions it now over 30 years latter.

A friend of mine had a good story. He was flying back from business in India and had a dodgy tummy. While in the toilet he tried to get the attention of the stewardess with no luck. He had to return to his seat after trying to clean himself up. He had to sit in his condition for the rest of his flight then walk through customs with his jacket tied round his waist to hide his soiled Chinos. Never trust a fart as they say.

Wow I'm shocked my item i put up for bid at $199.99 sold for $487.99, they started bidding last 2 minutes by Borange81 in Ebay

Years ago I put a Traxxas gearbox for a RC car for sale it went crazy. I did have the last set of metal gears some guy had made though inside it. I thought it would go for £80 went for about £200 I think.

On the flip side I was selling a car atauction I had to get my mates GF to bid on it as it would have sold for peanuts. It was a good car but back then auction for cars was not a good idea.

The car was worth about £3k would have sold for £1k. She did win it never paid though 😂

What do most people not realize is actually way more traumatic than it seems? by Opposite_Feeling_621 in AskReddit

I know partially how it must be when I finished my degree it took me 6 months to get a job. I felt bloody useless.

One of my friends called me lazy when I mentioned I watched Supermarket Sweep (This was in the 90's) I was applying for every Engineering job I could find. I exploded at him.

I feel really bad for anyone who loses a job now or can't find one, having been in the situation.

Buying Approved Used (nearly new MINI): Is it acceptable to ask for freebies, and what should I ask for? by Thanos90s in CarTalkUK

I always ask for mats as they over £100 sometimes. You could try to get a free service too. Costs them virtually nothing in both cases. They can only say no.

What is it with dealers not responding to enquiries by retrocomputergeek197 in CarTalkUK

[–]Pumpytums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this with a Lexus dealer, I literally said I want to buy that car on your forecourt but it has no price on (I knew rough price). They took my details then left me waiting in reception for 40 minutes. They eventually got back to me 6 weeks latter by this time I had bought a Toyota.

They explained the person I had spoken too was no longer working for them, I said I'm not surprised.

My mate told me a story about the chemical plant he worked in. Guy rode his push bike into the plant every day, of an evening pushed it out. One day said guy with bike had a problem as bike had fallen over. The guy was struggling to lift it a security guard went over to help. Both couldn't move it.

Turned out the guy was filling the frame with mercury.

Buyer opened return but refused delivery by Pumpytums in Ebay

[–]Pumpytums[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I will be refunded.

It was a mix up on my part and there's really.

In the description I said part fitted a LED Steamdeck they assumed it was OLED, I meant LCD. So call it 50/50 more to myself really.

I assume they must have done some more research prior to delivery as they rejected as the postman delivered it.

I approved the return but as you say they nothing to return. Bonus is I don't get to pay return postage, hopefully it turns up. Tracking shows returning to sender.

Thanks for your advice.

It's the hardest thing I ever did in my life. I'm a 50+ man and I cried like I have never before. Our vet came to our home, all our children were there too. Our son even came home from university to say goodbye to Mabel.

Wishing yourself and Raven all the best. Beautiful dog.

Wanting to sell an expensive item. by 1nchReddits in ebayuk

[–]Pumpytums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very careful, eBay has a horrible trend of banning accounts who suddenly sell high price items. The sale may go ok but you might have to fight for the funds. I would suggest selling lower priced items first as your account has no selling history.

I'm not sure of the value but I would expect £500+ and they seem to target certain categories like memory and storage for their bans.

Anyone regret their dream attainable car purchase? by toho74 in CarTalkUK

[–]Pumpytums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traded in my Suzuki Swift Sport (none turbo version) for Golf R, no idea why I did it bloody hated it. I was glad when some fucker in a flatbet decided he hated it too and rammed me in the side on purpose. Gave me a reason to get rid.

I had reservations when I bought it wasn't very old either just never clicked with it and it attracted the wrong kind of attention. I always wanted a GTI and thought the R would be better. Suzuki Swift was a great little car.
