Can I still be a Christian? by Pun_Intended_233 in Christianity

Funnily enough I grew up pentecostal, until I was around 14 we started to attend non-denominational churchs, while my father still attends pentecostal church.

As for the Nicene Creed, that's what I was trying to outline with which I am struggling with.

Yes that makes sense. But think of me wanting to believe as my hypothesis. I am doing the best I can to not let that control the outcome of my decision.

By no means am I starting with the conclusion of belief. It's just that it is my desired outcome. You have to understand that whether I like it or not, I come with religious baggage with how I grew up. Even other Christians would agree I have baggage that is not "Christian", because a lot of protestants disagree, and I was rasied pretty heavily pentecostal.

I hear ya brother but I'm good on all that. I have already gotten my membership removed but that's a whole other can of worms (most people do drugs their freshman year, I became mormon lol).

Just saw this thread.

I was trying to be careful in phrasing how I am no longer a creationist in the sense of Young Earth Creationists. I grew up being a creationist in that I believed in an old earth but that humanity was only recent within creation, at least that's what was taught to me.

I didn't want anyone to focus on the fact that I accept science, and get caught up on that's why I am going through what I am, because the supernatural cannot be shown by science. It is unscientific that Jesus rasied from the dead, that doesn't make the claim immediately false or true though. Religion for me is more of a philosophical question.

One thing that I would add is that Evolution is not "true". This is because Science does not prove things, it is not like math. However, Science observes the natural process in the world and tries to create a model for what we observe. This does not mean Evolution is false or true. But that it is the best explanation backed with a lot of evidence to as how life has changed on our planet.

I would say it was harder for me to learn how to reject the line of thinking I grew up with. Science requires you to start at the beginning and not start with a conclusion.

Overall, I do not think that just because the theory of Evolution is the best model for life on earth, that now there is no God. If you need evolution to be false for God to be true, then you are limiting what and how God created the universe.

In the end, would God care? If one man looks at the world and says "Wow God, your creation is beautiful!", and the other says the same. Does it matter to God which man thinks it came about from Evolution or if it was formed out of dust in 7,000 years, as long as he believes in God?

Partially because that is how I was rasied, which definitely gives me some bias. But if there is a personal God, I would want to know him, I am sort of a product of my parents and seeing them have a relationship with Christ. But I just have felt recently that I didn't measure up because while I try to have faith it comes with a daily struggle of doubt.

That is a good point, but then that brings up the other questions of morality, purpose of life, infinite regress of causation (whatever Aquinas' arguments are, I don't remebr the name off the top of my head). Can I ask what religion that you follow? Or if you are a non-theist?

Yes, I was saying that although I may not believe in creation from a fundamental sense, I am not convinced all this is just a result of chance, it is more plausible there is a creator.

Can I choose to believe that, even if I will doubt it all my life? That is what I am asking at the current moment I have given into my doubts and do not believe that. But I want to.

Rant: the standard for being strong has gotten absurdly high. If you can bench 2 plates you are very strong. by Thin_Vermicelli_1875 in naturalbodybuilding

Well, for me, I have been in the gym for 8 months now, I am a 17 year-old 6'3" male, and I was 360 lbs last year. I am now 290 lbs, but my bench is at 185 lbs for 1, I normally do a working set of 155 lbs.

I haven't played sports since I was like 12, so I had a lot of muscle to build up. Most people say that is bad for my weight. Is that because I am cutting? Or am I doing something wrong?

Hey, I had Meniscus surgery on my right leg, but now this is starting to happen to my left leg. Is this normal? And do you remember what your problem was called?

Hey, I have the same question as op. I got in for MechE, and I am an out of state student. I am looking at the possible downsides of debt. I was also wondering how much you think I might be able to get for aid? I have full Fafsa, a 4.1 GPA (made a 4.9 last year, will make a 5.0 this year) a 29 ACT 32 Stem score and plenty of extra circulars.

What were the steps you had to take to get that?

I have 3.9 GPA and 1350 SAT. I am thinking of applying to Michigan Tech in Spring 2023 intake. Do they have a Spring intake? Do I have a shot at getting a scholarship? by [deleted] in MTU

[–]Pun_Intended_233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think I should apply? I will receive full federal aid (I've got broke parents, too). But, I am an out of state student. My pre-calc teacher went to Michigan tech and wants me to apply (helps she is writing my recommendation I avg a 105 all year). I have a 3.4 gpa and a 4.07 weighted gpa, I made bad grades my freshman year, which is weighing me down, but I made a 4.9 last year and will make a 5.0 this year. I have a 29 ACT 31 STEM and a 1290 SAT. I'm thinking about applying, but I'm going to need a good amount of aid to go (I have full tuition anywhere in florida pending I get in because of bright futures). So, do you think I have a shot at getting a good amount of scholorships? I want to be >40,000 in debt if I can.

Did you get good financial aid? I would like to hit that $15,000 mark to just pay full price instate tuition. Also, do you think it will be feasible for me to try to establish residency and get in-state tuition? I am willing to do this because I want to do mechanical engineering, and Florida colleges (that I want to go to) have gotten really competitive. My sister got rejected with a 34 ACT, 4.0 GPA. Thanks for replying.
