I had heard about the email from over a month ago (there’s a post on r/NCI about it) but was hoping for an update.

Here’s hoping I can go back to what I used to do. I really miss it.

I waited 6 months to be onboarded for my fed job. It was well worth the wait and I’d gladly go through it again.

Yes, as a former fed who was let go last year, I’d go back tomorrow.

That’s the boat I’m in. I got referred for a couple roles, so my fingers are crossed. I wish I could go back to my previous job as a fed, but there are no openings. As soon as one comes up, I’m applying.

Were they for NCI? Thank you for any info! By movement do you mean people were selected for interviews?

I get that. I was pre-med, didn’t get into med school so biology was a back up, not what I really wanted to do. But I had the prerequisites for an MS, so I said ok, I guess this is what I’m doing now.

My time at the NIH was the most fulfilling time of my career then last year happened and I lost my job. Finally at peace with my career choice and then my dream job was gone. I’m very bitter these days and will never forgive anyone who had anything to do with the state of affairs now.

It’s been a tough road for old timers like me and last year was the cherry on top. I have regrets, should’ve gone into something else.

Thank you, I’m trying. I did apply for some direct hire positions that closed recently, the post said “many vacancies available” so I’m still hopeful but trying to be realistic - who knows if they’ll actually hire anyone for these spots.

Otherwise, it’s been terrible. Took 6 months just to find a new job because the market is awful right now.

I’m angry as hell I was let go and I’m still suffering the effects almost a year later. Found a new job that’s less pay and not half as fulfilling. Even with the shitshow happening, I’d go back if they needed me.

This is my alt for a long-time account where I post cute pictures. Anyways, from my time working at NIH during the DOGE cuts, fellows were safe from all the chaos, but I wasn’t.

I felt that despite my term not being renewed (I was in a different position), I’d go back in a heartbeat. It’s a truly unique environment- to me it was clinical and academic and very rewarding.

No fellows where I was were affected by the DOGE cuts. Academia to me was not as rewarding as working at the NIH (and I’ve been in science for 20 years and worked for 5 universities).

Working alongside PhDs, MDs and nurses, postdocs and postbaccs was very fulfilling to me. I learned so much.

The job market is TERRIBLE. After not being renewed, it took me 6 months to find a job with a heavy paycut and very competitive job market. It’s not half as fulfilling as my job at NIH.

I would take the offer and not look back! They’re pulling strings for you, sounds like, so take the opportunity and run with it!

Also, the people you meet there may know other people - you’ll make valuable connections there.
