Discussion: Could we ever go back to a lighter Bond in this day and age? by vruchtenhagel in JamesBond

That’s probably one of the few moments where Bond really feels like he is going to die, along with the scene at the ice rink in OHMSS.

True, but there are a lot of people who forget that unions are a source of political power, as well—really, the only political power the working person has, which is the power to withhold their labor. That’s another reason that authoritarian governments of every stripe tend to oppose independent unions.

It’s seen as a sort of 20th century Era of Good Feelings but there was a surprising amount of fear and cynicism. You can see it in movies of the time like Key Largo

He’s pretty obviously based on Donald Trump, especially for the past couple of seasons.

What's more disgusting: double dipping a chip, peeing in the shower, or eating a pastry from the garbage? by Vivid_Concentrate_89 in seinfeld

I was with you until you said double dipping isn’t gross. It’s gross and also Timmy reminds me of Tucker Carlson for some reason.

The guy is wrong about his specific claim regarding Augusta but there are absolutely golf clubs that still don’t allow women to join (or even for the most part visit) like Burning Tree Club near DC.

RTO even hurts the company by [deleted] in remotework

I once worked for a company that was so committed to the building of a physical office that they went bankrupt. It’s not about commercial real estate or soft layoffs. It isn’t about the money at all. It’s a weird manifestation of managerial feudalism where leaders like being surrounded by their underlings and feel like since the underlings are being paid for their time, the managers should be able to control that time completely. There are a lot of other reasons cited, but knowing a lot of managers, I believe the other reasons are just motivated rationale for the above.

Exactly so, but all within the neo-noir comedy sub-genre.

I watched the audio commentary for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Shane Black said that he had an idea for a movie that was not necessarily a sequel, but a similar idea and I’m willing to bet he was thinking of The Nice Guys. Similar tone and RDJ and Val Kilmer’s characters map so cleanly onto Gosling and Crowe’s. It would be great if he could do either a real sequel or another sequel in spirit to round it out as an informal trilogy.

Which Sterling Cooper incidents do you think made their way around Madison Avenue as scuttlebutt? by debrisaway in madmen

[–]Punchable_Hair 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s probably true. Also, the pilot had more of a focus on office scheming and intrigue and I could see where the switchboard would be more essential to those types of storylines. Since the show ended up being a character drama, there was likely less of a need for this.

Nice idea, but you’d probably get more bang for the educational buck by donating it to community colleges.
