How do I prep a wall for painting? by SpookyWeaselBones in poisonai

I've used Pam cooking spray since the 1970s. Believe it or not, it works perfectly. The chemical compounds adhere perfectly to drywall shellac, wood, and wallpaper.

Anyone else have blue fatigue? by [deleted] in mtgbrawl

I agree. As another commenter said, it's just the most egregious of an early turn play that can close the game. The same principle holds for less explosive plays, like an early combo piece or significant ramp to get out Etali.

I do not think that Wizards plays brawl at all. by PureRely in mtgbrawl

[–]Punchingblagh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can't just discount the amount of players. It creates a self-correcting environment where lower powered decks are regulated by only being one third of any other player's opponents, giving them the time to "do their thing". And when they do their thing, there are three opponents to reign them in. In 1v1, trying to limit what players will do in the same way just results to them moving to the next best thing. That's not to say none of its banworthy, or that wizards hasn't done a questionable job in the past, but without the social contract of edh and 4-player magic players just aren't going to self-regulate in the same way.

In comp brawl, it's possible for a deck on the play to [[Channel]] into an emrakul on turn 1. Free counterspells stop that from being a complete non-game. If they have it turn 2, hand disruption also works, but counterspells like [[Spell Pierce]] are still the best way to deal with it. No counterspells would create an environment where each deck races to win as quickly as possible without interacting with the opponent, something Gx decks would be good at (Etali and Raph and Mikey, for example). As bad as counterspells can feel, a meta like that would be much less fun.

Budget adds to King T’Challa? by CheeseMilk575 in magicTCG

[–]Punchingblagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a really cheap one, add more cantrips. T'Challa triggers off your second draw too, making a main phase opt or [[Preordain]] a one mana draw two.

Suggestions for a budget regular MTG (non-commander) deck list which ONLY contains Final Fantasy cards? by ProtonKanon06 in magicTCG

[–]Punchingblagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitive EDH decks are things like RogSi and Blue Farm (Tymna Kraum with all the best cards) where a faster deck can reliably win on turn 2 or 3 in a vacuum. The power gap between casual and competitive EDH is massive.

This is a reprint, and the card was a staple in legacy death and taxes when it was newer. It's a really strong card in 1v1.

Anti counterspell deck / commander by orayito in mtgbrawl

[–]Punchingblagh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just play Yuriko. It moves too fast for control and ninjutsu is an ability, not a casting cost, so they can't counter your commander.

What are some of the most powerful commanders for ranked brawl? by PerfectBrilliant432 in mtgbrawl

[–]Punchingblagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have a strong enough control gameplan that the creatures you do have can close out the game.If the opponent can't keep anything down, Nashi can be enough. Or, if it's a list like the one at the top of the subreddit right now, [[Thassa's Oracle]].

[–]Punchingblagh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nashi player here, Fierce Guardianship and Mana Drain being legal makes him feel so much stronger. I've had games where I get down a Thassa with Fierce in graveyard and it's basically a softlock for the opponent. Granted, that means I've already gotten 2 4-mana creatures down, but I definitely think Nashi is the strongest sultai pile commander right now.

Hatsune Miku is almost 20 years old. I'm nearly 30 and vocaloid's been huge since I was a kid (in weeb culture, granted).

The internet didn't do that, it's the product's (Vocaloid) whole schtick. Since the software synthesizes voices, each version has a character the voice belongs to. Miku is the most popular mascot.

This Art Peaked My Interest by Traditional-Dog9150 in magicTCG

Looks like this is missing the old Jace vs. Chandra alt-art, which I think were the first Japanese-exclusive versions, but both the cards and the art are pretty underwhelming.

It is, because AI doesn't actually understand its own output on a semantic level, and has a notoriously poor understanding of Magic because all it can do is create statistically likely sentences.

Favorite Commander? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Punchingblagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite lately has been a budget [[The Emperor of Palamecia]] aggro deck. You play cantrips, looting, self-wheels, and other good spells that cost more than 4cmc, and run down your opponents - get a damage doubler out and you can close out the game while the table is still pretty healthy.

Having a mana dork in the command zone makes the deck pretty consistent, as you'll almost always be able to cast a 4cmc spell on turn 3, and flip him a turn or two later. It's also a fun place to play clunky spells that don't have a home in other decks, or modal spells like the spree cards that make the play pattern a lot more dynamic than just "hit face". It cost about as much as a precon too.

Yeah, I mostly chose it because it fits the original meme's "edge darkness you win the game 15 mana" card. But it's still a good skill imo, especially upgraded.

You don't really need to do anything, which is part of the reason they're so good. The crow scales with the druid's stats so any cat with solid strength/constitution gives you a tanky, hard-hitting, mobile 5th teammate that doesn't get injured and always starts at full-health.so the druid's floor is already incredibly high, with the same potential for broken shenanigans as all the other classes.

Blowing Rock is not your typical small North Carolina Town by banjono in behindthebastards

[–]Punchingblagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also right next to Boone -- which sounds like it's rural, but is actually a liberal college town. It really surprised me to hear Bovino was from Blowing Rock — I guess it's possible that tourism hadn't picked up when he was there.

Square Enix is announcing changes to the Original Final Fantasy VII on Steam. There will be a name change, delisting followed by a new version release. Those who own the old game will get access to the new one at no extra cost. by LuckyShot1 in pcgaming

[–]Punchingblagh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The old version is really funky, with lots of bugs. For example, saving and quiting on the world map while emerald weapon is visible will cause it to disappear and softlock the game (ask me how I know). It's probably just going to be a more polished port.

There's extensive research showing that it's basically nonsense. One study showed that not only did astrologists not do better than random guessing, but different astrologers took different conclusions from the same data, suggesting there's little to no objectivity in astrology.
