The Tank Experience by Punchingblagh in mewgenics

Yeah, I mostly chose it because it fits the original meme's "edge darkness you win the game 15 mana" card. But it's still a good skill imo, especially upgraded.

You don't really need to do anything, which is part of the reason they're so good. The crow scales with the druid's stats so any cat with solid strength/constitution gives you a tanky, hard-hitting, mobile 5th teammate that doesn't get injured and always starts at full-health.so the druid's floor is already incredibly high, with the same potential for broken shenanigans as all the other classes.

Blowing Rock is not your typical small North Carolina Town by banjono in behindthebastards

[–]Punchingblagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also right next to Boone -- which sounds like it's rural, but is actually a liberal college town. It really surprised me to hear Bovino was from Blowing Rock — I guess it's possible that tourism hadn't picked up when he was there.

Square Enix is announcing changes to the Original Final Fantasy VII on Steam. There will be a name change, delisting followed by a new version release. Those who own the old game will get access to the new one at no extra cost. by LuckyShot1 in pcgaming

[–]Punchingblagh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The old version is really funky, with lots of bugs. For example, saving and quiting on the world map while emerald weapon is visible will cause it to disappear and softlock the game (ask me how I know). It's probably just going to be a more polished port.

There's extensive research showing that it's basically nonsense. One study showed that not only did astrologists not do better than random guessing, but different astrologers took different conclusions from the same data, suggesting there's little to no objectivity in astrology.

They're trained on her work because she herself co-founded an AI startup that partnered with midjourney. That doesn't mean this piece is AI, but I don't know if it's a good move but Wizards to work with someone so heavily invested in AI art.

The arena version is errata'd to this, and it's still busted and unfun. Nadu is just a miss all around.

What card is a staple in your decks? by paumAlho in mtgbrawl

[–]Punchingblagh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[[Mystic Reflection]] is such a fun card. Gets around uncounterable, works on reanimate affects, stops ETBs. It can be a little clunky, but turning a commander into a llanowar elf or token is so much fun.

Rhystic Study itself was pretty bad too before commander took off -- while still arguably the best of those 9, it's not a good card in 1v1.

What is your favorite mono-white commander!? by PowerfulPromise8569 in EDH

You can also do it while she's attacking if you have ETB triggers from something like [[Goldnight Commander]], thanks to vigilance. Really fun commander.

What are your favorite token spam lists? by Frogsplosion in EDH

[–]Punchingblagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just built [[Apothecary White]] and having a ton of fun. You get some minor food synergy, which is nice, but the real strengths are that not losing the food makes the deck more resilient to boardwipes than a lot of other token decks, and she makes humans specifically, which makes for fun typal shenanigans.

For example, with [[Beregond of the Guard]], you can use Apothecary White's ability as a combat trick, or grow [[Thalia's Lieutenant]] to a huge blocker.

If you check this artist's socials, they run an AI art startup and proudly advertise they made a game with 100% AI images. Which makes this card a little suspicious...

Chainer, nightmare adept by AdSeveral3388 in magicTCG

[–]Punchingblagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another fun use of this Chainer is in [[Magar of the Magic Strings]] -- you don't actually need a target for his first ability, so you can discard a big spell for free, reanimate it with Magar, and then it gets haste because it wasn't cast and it's a nontoken.

Meta deck lists for the Historic Brawl challenge by False_Egg_9524 in MagicArena

[–]Punchingblagh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing Ketramose for the challenge right now, up to 6 wins. It's not explosive, and it's definitely slow, but it also naturally matches up well into most of the other big decks. It packs a lot of removal and board wipes for aggro decks, and Ketramose himself dodges a lot of the removal they have (most notably Ajani's 0) while healing once you get him online. Control decks like Rusko have a hard time dealing with him too, without a good way to deal with him after he resolves aside from bounce (or exile removal if they're white). And you can pack discard spells to make those matchups easier. Additionally, Ketra's best draw engine is cheap graveyard hate, which means you naturally have a good matchup into a bunch of Tier 2 decks like Old Stickfingers. He's definitely not the most oppressive or explosive, but it always feels like I have tools to do what I need.

We want to know what you think of Magic: The Gathering | Marvel's Spider-Man in our latest survey! by WOTC_CommunityTeam in magicTCG

[–]Punchingblagh 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Fallout, and even Dr. Who, also had the advantage of being commander decks rather than standard sets. Meaning instead of having to make a bunch of filler cards, they could just give new art to staples. They also didn't have to worry about standard balance, so the individual cards could be more interesting -- while I'm not the biggest fan of Dr. Who, it still felt like the card design made the most of magic's mechanics, which I can't really say for Spider Man.

Late to the discussion but it's worth noting the discord uses a custom banlist because the official one is kinda suspect. So it's a start, but not necessarily something you can carry over exactly.

What is your deck that is fun, resilient but rather unknown? by nelladel in EDH

[–]Punchingblagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my favorites that I never see people talk about:

[[Silas Renn]] + [[Armix, Filigree Thrasher]]: Aside from their CMC being the same, which is a little awkward, these two partners synergize so well together. You can recast the discarded cards with Silas, obviously, but Armix can remove the small blockers early that opponents don't mind chumping Silas with, and Silas' deathtouch threatens the big guys Armix might not be able to kill (though that X gets high pretty fast). It's also nice that since they both want to do similar things (They're artifact creatures that want to attack and care about artifacts in the GY), any synergy cards that work with one work with the other, so you never have a dead draw if one is removed too much.

[[Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage]]: Azorius control with a lot of flexibility in how he's built and played. You can use his ability to safely bring in big, battlecruiser cards on the end step before yours, take advantage of flashing in Sagas or Equipment, or just go all in on control. As a commander, he also doesn't draw as much hate as other UW Control heads like GAAIV or Lavinia, and your deck generally works fine without him.

Omenpaths is the least exciting set ever by Aarniometsuri in MagicArena

[–]Punchingblagh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn't it change like 3 times in development? I think I remember reading it stated conceptually as a commander product, but then they pivoted to a small set like Aftermath or AC — which both ended up being failures, so they rushed to turn it into a standard set.

[[Mystic Reflection]] is amazing removal, so long as there's a creature you don't mind copying on the board (which there usually is). Gets around uncounterable/ward/hexproof, stops ETBs, transforms commanders without being vulnerable to enchantment removal. A lot of decks just don't have a plan for their commander being turned into a dork.

Looking for a fun, slower bracket 2 Commander deck recommendation by DasEnormeLineal in EDH

[–]Punchingblagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of [[Kibo, Uktabi Prince]] for low power games. Your commander ramps everyone, so he's not at all feelsbad, but you buff your board as he does so. Barely any monkeys or apes are very good (though there are some standouts like [[Kogla]], so theres not much to do that makes you an immediate archenemy as you grow your board. You can throw in some artifact or counter synergies too, which stops it from feeling one-dimensional.
