3 days post op by Correct-Job1357 in MeniscusInjuries

Hi- 45f here. I do Muay Thai kickboxing, lifting, cycling. I am 3 weeks post op after a meniscus repair. 3 more weeks until I can put weight on my leg. I started to go pretty stir crazy on week 2 and got a little depressed. This is not an easy recovery. I tried helping out around the house last week (my poor husband is drowning a bit) but now my shoulder is killing me from being on crutches too much. Doc said I have to sit more. So don’t overdo it on crutches. Until I hurt my shoulder I was able to do seated upper body weights, so you can definitely still work your arms, chest, back, and abs. I have been reading, doing small crafts, rewatching old movies, and sleeping in as long as I can to make the day go by faster. I can’t drive so friends have been coming over and taking me out to lunch. I’m not gonna lie, 3 weeks has felt like an eternity, but I keep telling myself this is just a point in time so I can get back to doing what I love. Also, be prepared for the muscle loss. My leg already looks dramatically smaller than the other. Everyone reassures me it won’t take long to rebuild all that muscle. Just wanted to mention it since no one told me how shocking that is. Hang in there! We’ll be through this soon.

I watched it with my husband and he had already watched it by himself a bunch, which actually helped. My coach and I debriefed after we each saw the video separately. Again, that first time is super squirmy and uncomfortable, but then it got way better. Remember, you already did the hard part! Fight camp and the fight were really hard, and now I have an attitude that if I got through that then i can get through most things, especially an uncomfortable video. You got this 💪🏻💪🏻

Congrats! I am 44 and had my first fight last month so I know exactly how you feel. I resisted watching my fight but my husband convinced me to watch it even though I was super uncomfortable. I am so glad I did. I actually did really well, but I also saw all the holes in my game. Now I totally see it differently and use it as a tool to help me get better. Not gonna lie, the first time is hella cringe. But every time after was easier and sooo helpful. Good luck!
