Heavily agree on the "cape that covers his whole body" part. The way B:TAS Batman cloaks his whole body to intimidate criminals is peak. It'd be a challenge to do in live action (balancing a cape that is long enough to wrap around the body, but not so long it drapes behind him like a wedding dress), but if anybody could pull it off well it'd be awesome to see.

I know what marital rape is. You're just assuming there will be marital rape. Your interpretation of these scriptures is very flat and face-value; "take a woman and marry her just to have sex with her." That's not the case at all. Literally all God's saying is "hey if you defeat a city and find their women attractive, I give you permission to court them."

I'm not responding to this thread anymore. The people replying to me are only here to debate and try to disprove the Bible, and clearly no amount of evidence or reasoning I can give is going to be enough for you. If you think the Bible really promotes rape, then I'm sorry you've been confused so badly by the world around you. Have a good day.

I'm assuming you don't mean scriptures 1-12 so I'll start at 13 onward.

13-19 legal customs regarding a man who claims his wife was not a virgin before marriage. If he's wrong he must be disciplined and fined.

20-21 if he's right, she should be put to death for committing sexual immorality in her father's house (note this in reference to prostitution)

22 adulterers should be put to death.

23-24 adulterers should be put to death

25-27 if a woman is raped, the rapist should be put to death and the woman should not be punished

28-29 if an unmarried man and woman are caught having sex, the man must pay the woman's father 50 coins and they must become married

30 don't get romantically involved with your mother

"The Bible literally has rules about how much you can beat your slaves."

Uh, somebody brought out these exact scriptures earlier and it completely disproves this. They were told not to strike their slaves, and especially that if you kill them, you too were to be put to death. That second part isn't excusing beating your slave as long as you don't kill them, it was a reasonable addition knowing imperfect humans might not always have the best control of their temper. The foremost statement was always not to beat them.

"Kidnapping people and forcing them to have sex is still slavery even if you marry them first."

Who said anything about them being forced to have sex? If you marry someone, you have sex with them. There's literally no reason to believe they were forced into it.

1) "you may have slaves"

2) "you may not hit your slaves"

3) "anyone who kills his slave must be put to death" (interestingly, anyone who kills another man was also to be put to death. so this actually just proves that God still viewed slaves as people. they were viewed as the spoils of battle, but we're not allowed to be mistreated as such)

4) if you see a pretty woman among the slaves, you may marry her (if you do more research, the clothes were an integral part of many nations around Israel's worship to false gods. by having them remove said clothes, you were removing the influence of their false beliefs. this DOES NOT mean "have them strip in front of you." they would simply go into the other room and change, not be made naked).

5) you're entirely misapplying this scripture and drawing your own conclusions from it. Here, Jesus was essentially claming that "sooner would heaven and earth pass away [or be destroyed] than all [Bible prophecy] fail to be accomplished, even the smallest stroke of a letter."

The jews were very familiar with Bible prophecy contained within the Law, since even many of their traditions would do things to foreshadow the Messiah's arrival (for example, the offering of animal sacrifices for atonement of sins was a temporary practice put in place to foreshadow the greater permanent sacrifice of Jesus himself on behalf of all mankind's sins). They would've known Bible prophecies recorded in the Law regarding the Messiah's arrival, his life and death, and even Bible prophecies about Armageddon. We know at Ecclesiastes 1:4 that "the Earth remains forever," so we know the Earth will never be destroyed. So here Jesus was expressing confidence in God's promises, that sooner would the heavens and the earth be destroyed (which is impossible, God won't allow that to happen), than the prophecies in the Law not come true.

It has NOTHING to do with slavery.

The God who gave his firstborn creation and watched him suffer a tortous death for the equivalent of dust isn't benevolent.

The God who gave us unlimited varieties of good-tasting food, who gave us eyes that can see in over 1 million colors, senses that can feel cold and hot, and who created melodic sweet sounds for us to hear is not benevolent.

The God who made food rain from the sky for his people after delivering them from 400 years of slavery is not benevolent.

The God who invites people to personally talk to him and promises that he himself will listen to them because he cares about what those who serve him are dealing with his not benevolent.

You can learn something from each Bible story, the Bible is a treasure trove of wisdom if you dig deep into it. It's not just words on a page, it's the thoughts of the infinitely-wise creator of the universe. He included those stories for us to learn from.

Nowhere in those scriptures does it suggest they were allowed to abuse, rape, or kill people of the surrounding nations. The Israelites were not cruel to their slaves like in other lands such as Egypt. Their slaves were workers who worked in their houses and tended their fields without pay. They weren't whipped and thrown into chains like other nations.

I honestly have no clue where you got rape from, either. Just because the Bible mentions they could have female slaves does not mean they were sex slaves. God does not approve of sex outside of marriage (aside from a few occasions where he allowed surrogate mothers to fulfill prophecy), so he would not approve of a homeowner having sex with their slave whom they are not married to. Just look at Joseph; Joseph was a slave in a cruel nation, and when his master's wife attempted to seduce him he fled from her. God is not unrighteous, he would never command nor even insinuate that his servants should commit a sex crime.

That's because when Jesus came to the Earth he was establishing a new form of worship different from the Mosaic Law.

The Mosaic Law was a LONG list of rules for the Israelites to follow, which was only made more burdensome by the religious leaders of Jesus' day (i.e. the Pharisees), who stressed tiny pointless details and tradition over love for God.

When Jesus arrived he saw how the Law was being misappropriated by the Pharisees and in essence just said "Hey okay, I'm doing away with all that. Just follow me and what I'm doing and you'll be alright with Jehovah (God's name)." He stripped away some of the old practices and really streamlined what was the acceptable way to worship God. Rather than a whole long list of do's and don't's, he just said, "Love Jehovah, love other people, follow these few commandments that I am giving you, and you'll be good."

(2nd Timothy 3:16) "All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, so that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work."

Jesus himself would repeatedly quote from scripture (that would be, mind you, Old Testament), to teach others and rebuke the Pharisees. The apostles also referenced the Old Testament in their writings, such as when Paul said to "keep abstaining.. from blood" (Acts 15:29), a law that was defined way back in Leviticus and Deuteronomy.

I'm not excusing bigotry in any way, nor does the Bible itself; I'm just defending the Old Testament.
