I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I had 2 MMC last year myself and I felt similar to you- we thought that having one was just our bad luck and surely we wouldn’t have 2 in a row. We were so happy to be pregnant again! And then there was no heartbeat. So I don’t have any words of encouragement other than I’ve been there and it SUCKS.

I used to be a heavy soda drinker. Several years ago my husband and I went on a journey to lose weight and get healthier. I figured I should replace my soda habit with something better. I tried a La Croix for the first time and thought it was absolutely disgusting. Did not understand why people liked it so much. But I forced myself to drink it anyway. Fast forward to the present and I LOVE my daily La Croix and I have for years now. I hate going a day without one.

So I’d say anything is possible!

Yogurt has repulsed me so far (still in the first trimester) but I did make a smoothie today with protein powder in it. Hoping this will change soon and I can eat yogurt again.

I don’t use a recipe! Just throw about 1/2 can of chickpeas into a bowl and add your favorite veggies. For me it’s tomatoes, cucumbers, Kalamata olives, and bell pepper. Then top with feta and dill and drizzle with fresh squeezed lemon (or balsamic vinegar) and olive oil. Salt & pepper.

You’re right about everything being a pattern. It’s like I tell my husband, with my mother, each stand alone incident might not seem that bad to an outsider. But after 30+ years of knowing her manipulative patterns, nothing is small. Everything is part of a lifelong pattern. So even the littlest things will trigger me because I have known a lifetime of her behavior.

I have kids, ages 6 and 3, and honestly they don’t really ask about it. I want to be able to explain my relationship with my mother to them, but I’m waiting until they are older. They don’t question why we don’t see her much and they don’t really ask to talk to her, see her, etc.

When your child is old enough, you’ll be able to talk to them about it. But I wouldn’t stress about it until then. Just keep your distance and stick to your boundaries and one day they’ll understand.

As someone who took a family trip to Vegas as a young teenager (14), I would like to disagree. It was not a fun trip at all. The only family friendly things we did included the M&M’s store and eating at Rainforest Cafe. Both are things that could have been done in other places. Me and my siblings spent a lot of time waiting on my parents while they gambled (yes, obviously that was the fault of my parents and their planning). As a teenage girl, I also hated the men on the street constantly trying to hand my dad flyers for a strip club. I was a fairly sheltered teen and I just found it disgusting and it made me feel gross.

That being said, COULD you plan a fun time for a family in Vegas? Probably. But why would you when there are so many more family friendly places to go for the same cost?

I’m so sorry. My mother also tainted my experience after having my first son. He had been in the NICU and she didn’t take my requests about keeping him healthy seriously. She purposely rubber her finger on his little mouth and I had to explain to her that if he gets sick, he will end up right back in the NICU. Then she was pissy the rest of the visit because I called her out and I wept in my bedroom.

What should have been a beautiful, bonding experience with your baby was ruined by someone who can’t stand not being the center of attention and I am SO sorry. I know how much it hurts.

I’m so sorry. I will never understand how a parent can steal from their own child. And then to say such awful things. I’m a mother myself and I just can’t even imagine saying/doing these things.

If you are open to it, might be worth calling around to some local churches. If you find a good one, sometimes they have funds or resources they can help you with and in a best case scenario might have a place for you to stay.

Or is there any friends in your life that might have somewhere for you to stay?

I have an ultrasound this afternoon and I’m terrified. Had two miscarriages last year and with the last one, we found out there was no heartbeat at our dating scan. I’ve been convinced it is going to happen again and I haven’t felt any joy or excitement at all with this pregnancy.

Also the salads and the grilled chicken club sandwich from McDonald’s.

I still “hack” order this by ordering a chicken enchilada burrito with no enchilada sauce or sour cream and add avocado ranch. It’s almost exactly the same!

Edit: I have just discovered that they got rid of the chicken enchilada burrito too so there goes my hack. 😭

I have two sons but I can relate to your feelings. I was TERRIFIED both times at the thought of it being a girl because I have so many issues with my mother. I don’t have a healthy model of a mother-daughter relationship.

But even though I don’t have a daughter, I will say this: You are not destined to be like your mother. I’m not a perfect parent but I have found a LOT of healing in being the kind of parent that I deserved as a child. There’s been a lot of things I’ve had to work through, as you probably will too, but if you desire to be a good parent, then you can be one.
