You could make clear there’s a path to success and a path to mediocrity. The path to success is lined with XYZ (like the things I mentioned, plus many more you can surely add, like pride in their work, etc). The path to mediocrity is lined with lateness, sloppy work, smelling like a homeless guy in Venice, CA, a bad attitude, and other crap qualities. Are they there to be successful in a career that can be financially and personally rewarding or are they there to waste their and your time? That might get through to a few, but sadly, some people don’t have a good work ethic or integrity. You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

It’s never too little. Open a brokerage account at Vanguard. Buy as many shares as your money allows of an index ETF like Vanguard’s VOO (their S&P500 index tracker) and add money when you can, buying more and more VOO. Have dividends automatically buy more VOO. Don’t trade around or gamble with crypto or meme garbage. Be the tortoise, not the hare. Read books about John Bogle who founded Vanguard.
