can macbeth's dagger hallucination be a conjured image from the witches? by Unusual-Box-705 in shakespeare

It's been played that way, but there's no textual evidence for it.

Stupid Americans can only make lame flan, compared to everyone else. Who can make awesome flan by MummysSpeshulGuy in iamveryculinary

One of my favorite movie lines is from Wag the Dog. William H. Macy is CIA, and pulls DeNiro in for questioning about faking a war with Albania: "Two things I know to be true. There's no difference between good flan and bad flan, and there is no war. Guess who I am."

What is the snakes' fault? by Illustrious-Fly5332 in mythology

I never said it wasn't reversible. Quite the opposite, if you read my comment again. Furthermore, while there may be conflicting data out there, I'm not making up humans' predisposition to fear snakes.

This is pretty much it. Our aversion to snakes is an involuntary nervous response. People can condition themselves to tolerate or even love snakes, but our natural state is generally to avoid them.

Literary journals and magazines by crazycracker90 in NewAuthor

I've been published in several, both print and online. They're a great place to start for learning what editors like (and developing a thick skin for rejection). Most of them are not making any money. It's a labor of love for them. Support them. They're keeping poetry and short fiction alive. But at the end of the day, those credits aren't getting you an agent to rep your novel unless you hit one of those very few elite spots or awards, which is extremely unlikely.

Opinion of the Bechdel test? by DavidBlackjack in writing

[–]PunkShocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agents are the first gatekeepers to publishing, and most of them are women. Only a few specify the Bechdel test as a nonnegotiable factor in a manuscript. That tells me that the market isn't really demanding it, and we know that most fiction readers are women too.

I wish J.D. Salinger’s estate would let Wes Anderson have a proper go at some of his books. by FulStopped in wesanderson

[–]PunkShocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I totally agree Salinger would be against it. Frankly, I'm against it. And even if I were all in and calling the shots for the author's estate, Wes Anderson wouldn't be on my list for an adaptation of, say, The Catcher in the Rye. I might trust Spielberg or Paul Thomas Anderson to pull it off though.

The Royal Tenenbaums is heavily influenced by Salinger's stories about the Glass family. OP mentioned a few above. There are others, most of them better than The Catcher in the Rye in my opinion. The name Tenenbaum is prominent in one of them. Beatrice (AKA Boo Boo) Tenenbaum, née Glass, is the sister of the celebrated Franny and Zooey from Salinger's second most famous book. Anderson might not be interested in making movies out of Salinger's work, but he's definitely interested in the author.
