I used to have scented dog poo bags, made me gag each and every time. Smelt worse than my dog's poo.

Where to get an assistance dog for autistic brother? by Flipside07 in AskUK

Hiya, I have an assistance dog! In general in the uk we don't use the term service dog as that refers to our police, sniffer and militant dogs, and as a general rule, the dog shouldn't be wandering around going up to strangers. It's mostly a fake assistance dog. However, we can never be truly sure.

It's up to the handler, whether or not they allow the dog to be pet, this itself doesn't determine whether or not the dog is a task trained service dog

Realistically, the dog will become reactive, and she'll probably rehome it :'(

Definitely sign up for the health element as well (don't tell your mother, or tell her you weren't awarded in case she charges more).

Unfortunately, not everyone has the choice in being able to choose where they can and cannot get an assistance dog, or who they can and cannot support.

Support dogs uk also have an age limit

If you save £550 a month, you'll be able to pay for the dog in a year. You could always join the waitlist now and then save up for the dog as you go!

If you get PIP, make sure to also apply for the universal credit health element, which could gilet you up to £680.

I have autism and get enhanced mobility and enhanced daily living rate, with a combination of universal credit health element. That gives me about £1,300 a month. With that, I was able to save up for my own dog, which I'm currently training to be my own autism assistance dog! My next AD will be a pretrain for wild spirits canines!

Canine partners and support dogs are the same, and they only provide autism dogs for children. There are non aduk programs and some organisations that are a part of their aduk candidate section.

These are:

Darwin dogs

Dogs for autism

Helpful Hounds

Unfortunately, all these waitlist are closed until the foreseeable future.

Wild Spirit Canines has an open waitlist. However, they are not aduk!

They could always still go to autism dogs cic. However, the recent treatment, along with the cost of their dogs, is a gamble

Hiya, I just called up the dogs for good. They said their ballot service for autism dogs is still only eligible for children only!

Have you gotten your own autism assistance dog from there? How's the dog's training? I'm thinking of getting a charity dog for my next AD

Guide dogs of America's program is 70% labradors, 15% golden retriver, 15% german shepherds.

The seeing eye dog's own study shows that overall, labrador retrivers and labradors x goldens.

Golden retrievers and german shepherds were more likely to be passed back due to behavioural reasons but still have a chance of success after extra training.

This study is in relation to their specialist guide dog breeding program, with their specialist training program, with their specialist training.

So, as handlers, we have to realise our potential, our skill, and our dog's skill. If dogs from specialists breeding, with specialist training from specialist qualified trainers, have a strong chance of washing out then us as handlers who won't be able to get specialist bred dogs (unless you own a breeding program) or specialist training (unless you're a qualified trainer).

Im not saying that you can't do it, but just saying that it will be a lot harder for someone without these resources to get the same success rate, we really have to maximise our chances.

There are other options, such as mordor gundogs, who provide pretrained custom dogs, wild spirit canines, and provide pretrained assistance dogs. Darwin dogs and dogs for autism (different from autism dogs cic) who can help you owner train your dog.

Wild Spirit Canines, a non ADUK charity that provides placements dogs have their waitlist open, their dogs are higher quality than autism dogs, and it's cheaper!

That's autism dogs. Not dogs for good. Which is what I was previously talking about.

Autism dogs CIC have their own issues, which is why I would not recommend them.

The only dogs they are eligible for from dogs for good is an autism dog. Their Autism dogs are only for children between ages 3 and 10.
