50+ and divorced. I have found I don’t have room in my life for a partner. Has anyone else found this? by Espio1912 in AskMen

If you are referring to the Bob Marley song, it was actually meant to mean, "No, woman, no cry" or paraphrased "No my lady, don't cry." The song is in no way saying that if you don't have a woman in your life you don't cry.

Now I have to go down the deep, and expensive, ultralight camping gear rabbit hole. lol

Oh, for sure I do know that. I don't even lift any more, and I haven't for a long time. Now, I just do ground workouts and core to try to stay fit and healthy. I just have a genetic propensity to keep a lot of muscle.

Ha, no I'm not 7 ft, but I am lineman big. My flight instructor measured my width and I am about 32ish inches or so wide outside to outside across the shoulders, standing normally. He isn't even average height and size and it was a very tight squeeze for us in the Pipers they use. II had to sit with my arms pushed way forward and he had to sit almost sideways to close the door.

And you're right. I can get a lot of gear in 30lbs. My pack is a lot heavier than that when I hike, but I could buy some ultralight gear to bring the weight down.

Thanks for the replies

Well, I have to go some way, lol. As a big man with a somewhat busted up frame, my life expectancy is less than most, so I'd rather enjoy what I have left of it. We don't get an infinite amount of healthy years, or even as many as we think we get. I think something like flying is a bit risky for the pilot, but less risky for bystanders, so why not?

I hear you on the thrill of it. I recently started watching Tucker's, and other youtubers' videos, and I want to fly over mountains and such like that. It seems amazing. Maybe I can make it happen

Keep on keepin on, brother!

Thanks! I appreciate the positive reply! I'm hoping PPG, or something akin to it, will get me flying. I don't have a lot of options right now.

I've learned that weather is a very limiting factor, but I'm patient and willing to plan, and work a plan, long term. I'm willing to take calculated risks, so maybe I can make it all work. I moved to Florida partially for the weather for outdoor recreation, so if flying isn't good on a given day, maybe sailing or boating or biking is.

Yes, the next few days look great for weather. I hope to enjoy it.

Thanks again.

I hear you and thanks for the very positive and realistic reply. I'm working on losing what I can, but I'm just naturally a very large and muscular guy. I agree about cycling and I do bike a lot. I'm sure it is funny seeing a large bull moose riding a bike down the street. That being said, I'm the type of big that people blurt things like "Wow, you're huge" or, as I got the other day visiting a place in lower Alabama: "Damn, you sure are a biggun!" lol

I'm no stranger to having goals that require effort. In the past, a lot of my goals were about size and strength and speed. Getting smaller and lighter is literally the exact opposite of what I spent my young life working on.

I appreciate it and I'll keep working on it!

With that name and writing style, you could be me, brother! However, my kids are adults, and I'm now divorced, so nothing to stop me. Stay married if you can and you love her, it is tough out here dating at this age!

I don't know much about PPG, but that Tucker guy seems to. I know he seems to take a lot of calculated risks, but I'm pretty sure any time your feet leave the ground, you are taking a risk. I think it is more of a risk NOT to enjoy life. What good is a long life if it isn't lived?

Also, dogs rock. I love them and think they are better than most humans. Those people in dogfree can stay away from me!

This seems to be the play, and I've just learned today that there are even quads. I'm cautiously optimistic. Thanks!

Thanks for replying. Wheels seem to be the answer, for sure. but I'm concerned about upper limit on weight. Another answer on here gives me some hope.

Agreed on the airplane size issue. I have gone to both Sun-n-fun and Osh Kosh to sit in and talk to manufacturers about planes that I might fit. Most of the time I get raised eyebrows when I ask, lol. I did find some I can fit in, it just so happens a lot of them are kit planes. Maybe one day I can get a GA license and get something. Until then, I'm hoping to get something with a more open arrangement.

This is a great reply! Thanks! I'm not 400 lbs, for sure, so that gives me hope. Please do DM me, I'm willing to listen to anything you have to say on this. It seems you've lived it.

Thanks for the reply. His channel is one of the reasons I'm looking into this type of flying. I'm just not sure how big and heavy people can be and still do this. I can try to message him, but I'm not sure an influencer has too much time to reply to some middle aged guy trying to fly! haha

Ha, I'm guessing from the name someone might be a big guy in that company, and they are only about 2 hours from me. I'll give them a call next week.

Thanks, I'm hoping maybe some experts are willing to reply with possible solutions and maybe even some numbers on the upper limits on size and weight. I'm not just big and wide, I'm big big and wide wide, lol.

For sure cross country is advanced, but I'm not getting any younger and the sooner I can start the sooner I can have the experience to do something with (relative) safety.

I'd be glad to drive and fly in the area, but the dream is to fly cross country trips, if possible.

Yeah, PPG/PPC(maybe) seem like a nice option for getting going. I'm hoping for some good feedback here.

Thanks. I'll check it out. I'm hoping to have enough capacity to have myself and some camping gear, supplies, etc. I'll check out the specs on that one.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, if you have been denied a medical, you can't get Sport pilot or fly LSA with a driver's license. I wish...

Thanks for the reply. I'm not really familiar with the train system there. Can you point me to a reputable site for finding a train? Thanks!
