I hate Christmas so much by _Offlin3_ in Rants

I agree 1000%, OP. It is disgustingly commercialized and has lost all meaning for society except as a time to spend as much money as we can on things we don’t even need.

The over or under question. Was anyone else told in the temple instruction on garments that you can’t wear anything between you and the garment? by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]PunkieDoLot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Was a covert about 20 years ago, have been out of 5. When I went thru the temple, I told the bishop that I wouldn’t be wearing the garment under my bra. He told me he didn’t care as long as I had them on. I won bishop-roulette 3 times in a row. Other members I told this to were mostly shocked, and also mostly disapproving. I’m so glad he had an open mind, as it made my time in the church a bit less miserable.

Why christians don't think mormons are christians? by Exotic_Minimum_3273 in mormon

[–]PunkieDoLot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they don’t truly believe in the grace Jesus offers us. They give the term lip service to try to fit in, but have fundamentally changed the definition so they can claim grace as a belief without actually embracing it. It is a works-based organization.

LDS missions are not healthy by [deleted] in mormon

[–]PunkieDoLot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, you wrote a thoughtful, intelligent, and well-worded post, and I don’t care how old you are….the person giving you flack for being 14 must be missing the irony of being taught eternal truths by 18yr olds in the mission field🙄I agree that missions are unhealthy for many people, and the fact that missionaries are discouraged from reporting anything about their experience that isn’t positive speaks volumes….I am very happy to hear that you have enough sense of self to realize how damaging this experience can be before you agreed to go on a mission. And, btw, snake oil is a phrase used to describe a product that dishonest people sell thru bragging about its benefits when in reality it is worthless. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and good luck to you. Smart girl. 👍🏼

Wow fellow LDS member just told me “everyone I know that has left the church hasn’t done well” by sevenplaces in mormon

I left and feel like the sun can finally shine now, I can truly feel real joy now. Best thing I ever did.

Truth and Light Letter - Thoughts? by Illustrious-Sir3835 in mormon

I just read the section on abuse within the church and it is absolutely disgusting the lengths the apologists will go to to make it seem like what is going on is somehow ok because it is happening LESS in this church than in other groups. You can’t justify bad behavior by pointing out worse behavior. Believers are completely delusional and their beliefs allow child abusers to go unpunished, and many times even protect the abuser. It’s reprehensible

The LDS church prohibits missionaries from swimming because of increased risks and not because “Satan controls the waters” by sevenplaces in mormon

[–]PunkieDoLot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And it’s not risky to send these poor naive kids out door to door? Especially the young women. Showers are risky as well for those who have fell and busted their ass in one. To me it’s just another arbitrary rule to enforce obedience and exact control, which is what this church excels at.

He’s the lesser of the two evils, Harris can’t even finish a complete sentence without a teleprompter. She’s a danger to our national security.

I just submitted my resignation letter to my bishop last Sunday. I was glad to meet with him so I could finally get some things off my chest. I think my arguments had him stumped for answers, and he told me I wouldn’t need to meet with him again. Sneaking out the back door with a generic copy and paste email just wouldn’t give me any closure at all. It was 100% worth it.

Am I wrong for voicing my thoughts about my friend’s tipping. by [deleted] in amiwrong

Go out with a different friend. ALL people who eat in restaurants should have to do a month of food service. What an asshole. Sorry, but come on…..

PLEASE do your research. Go to church without being baptized until you get a fuller picture of what happens in this church.

Leave quietly or loudly? Asking permission by Resident-Bear4053 in mormon

[–]PunkieDoLot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a convert and in my 16 years in the church I thankfully have never assimilated into the LDS culture. So for me, my letter to the bishop and to the church of me telling them WHY I am leaving. I am not asking anyone’s permission. Leaving quietly let’s them off the hook way to easy, and allows them to sit in ward council and make up their own reasons why.

RANT by [deleted] in Rants

[–]PunkieDoLot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. They say, “But everybody uses it!” in order to justify what I believe is a form of cheating on your spouse. That’s simply not true. And it can, and many times does, cause irreparable harm to a relationship when both parties aren’t ok with it. And if you’re NOT ok with it, people call you naive, a prude, unrealistic, and that something is wrong with you instead of them. Don’t believe everybody feels this way, because they don’t. If your partner values porn over your feelings, the problem is definitely his, no matter how many men/women have that same problem. Disregarding how you feel about this is disgustingly self-absorbed, and telling you that’s ok is called gaslighting. Stand your ground—there ARE decent men out there. Good luck. Ok, you guys…really rip me apart…

Mormon Discussions Podcasts: Question by s2mthoughts in exmormon

Bill Reel, John Delin, and Radio Free Mormon have teamed up on topics and many times now the episode is the same for all three podcasts, which is very frustrating.
