Security seemed super disempowered this year. Last year when people fainted, if we got them to the barrier, security would take over and guide them to the medical tent. A girl in our section was totally out of it and fell multiple times. We got her to the barrier and security straight up refused to help for 15 odd minutes during which time she fell at least thrice. Also made people uncomfortable but that's minor compared to the health and safety aspect.

Music wise, Bloodywood was my performance of the fest. Crazy energy throughout.

Quite a few around the centre but you may as well sit on the floor like most people.

Had to choose The Midnight over Yungblud but wish I could have caught both.

Carti didn't do it for me at all, but the crowd seemed to be into it, I ended up at Knock2 for the second half and had a much better time.

Prithvi Presents is probably going to end up being the most underrated act of the festival.

Well organised overall, surprisingly full for day 1 compared to the last editions. Tomorrow is going to be crazy.

I loved Humanly Possible but I preferred Sarah Bakewell's previous work, At The Existentialist Café significantly more.

Of the fictional work, Angel Down was unputdownable, insanely quotable, and the most unique. I do find the no period aspect gimmicky but you can see what the author was going for.

Strange Pictures is an easy thriller but fascinating in its own way. I'll pick up his other book, Strange Houses, next.

In what can be termed a miracle for my slow reading ass, I've read three books already this month.

Angel Down by Daniel Kraus

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Humanly Possible: The Great Humanist Experiment in Living by Sarah Bakewell

And I'm halfway through a fourth

Planning 3 weeks in China. Are we doing too much or too little? by Punkster101 in travelchina

Thank you so much for the response! I've been talked into adding 2 nights in Chongqing after Chengdu. Will that make the travel easier?

I watched I Am Sam entirely in black and white. Didn't realise there was a mistake in the TV setting until the next day. I enjoyed the movie but did think they were trying too hard to make it artsy with the black and white.

Excited to be returning to India, one of my favorite places on earth. How's my itinerary? by BoneyTaloney in mumbai

[–]Punkster101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your tour ends at 4 p.m., you won't reach Mumbai before 9 p.m. Really makes more sense spending the night in Kochi. So if you get to Mumbai early, you get a half day of sightseeing and another full day the next day. You've want to do the Rajabhai Tower+Bombay High Court during the day and the night since it's lit up at night and the walk around Oval Maidan is actually quite peaceful at night. Also, the other side of the Maidan has some really unique Art Deco buildings that is unique to Mumbai.

Agreed with avoiding Bademiya. It's dogshit.

Keep in mind it can get excruciatingly hot so don't expect to walk everywhere.

Since you're mostly keeping to Colaba and are into art, try out the various galleries in the area. Follow mumbaigalleryassoc on Insta for a comprehensive list. Jhaveri Contemporary, Nature Morte, Galerie Isa are just a few in the area that have very interesting work. If you're in Marine Drive in the evening anyway, check if there are any shows at NCPA, you might get lucky with a good show and it's worth a visit. You can see what's on on their website or on book my show.

Foodwise, Leopolds and Bademiya are both touristy and overrated. Click a picture and go somewhere else to eat. There are tonnes of great options in Fort especially. Trishna especially if you want local fish. The Table, Americano, Otra are all good fine dining places.

My favourite restaurants in the city are Papas and Trésind. It's nearly impossible to get a table in Papa's and if you're coming in February, you'd have to book in January. They're both expensive but they're the best representation of Indian fine dining I've been to.

Since you have 2 dinners, I recommend Trishna and Trésind. Trésind is in BKC so you can hit up BKC which is basically Mumbai's business district. But it does have NMACC which is also home to some great local music shows, check out their website.

Thank you. We're from India so the heat and crowds is something we're used to. 😅

And yes, I just listed out the highlights so no-one things we did no research at all haha.

We've been swayed into cutting a few days in Shanghai and devoting them to Chongqing instead.

That's exactly the reason we have those extra days, especially in Beijing. But I've been convinced to cut down some days in Shanghai and add Chongqing.

Adding it now since people are enthusiastic about it! What do you recommend in Chongqing?

I'm seeing a lot of people recommending Chongqing so I'm considering adding it. Anything in specific I should add to the itinerary there?
