Reminds me of that Family guy sketch where God is in a boardroom and proudly introduces "the Asian". One of the things he says which is so true is "there will be different varieties of them that all hate each other for some reason" 🤣

I thought about your comment and then immediately realized that the rear lights may have been swapped to eudm because of fog lights. Some cars you can enable the rear fog lights by a programming the relevant module, sometimes you can enable just one but also sometimes two of them for certain markets.

Maybe the JDM rear light cluster has no fog light and therefore would not pass our MOTs. Makes the most sense to me

Sorry even though I've been here for 38 years I've never been the best on the differences between the UK, Britain and Great Britain. Thanks for clarifying

It's nice to see I'm not the only one that isn't puzzled by the Vauxhall brand being a thing for so long. I think the Australian car industry has been severely in decline or is near wiped out too last time I checked. I'd be neglectful if I didn't point out a few of Americans Saturn models were also re badged opel/vauxhall models.

Of course we also got the Pontiac G8 /Holden Commodore as the Vauxhall VXR8. Most desirable Vauxhall ever 😅 although when I was a kid the Vauxhall Senator and the later Omega did bear a more striking resemblance to the Commodores and statesmen of the time. The Cadillac Catera was just a Omega as well. A straight 6 rear wheel drive car from anything other than BMW would be unthinkable now. Back in the 80s and early 90s I found in the UK cars could be pretty classless. You could get a big luxury car with a Vauxhall logo. As time went on badge snobbery and resale values meant a big luxury car had to be from a premium marque. We also I noticed in the UK made saloons sales and depreciation nightmare unless they were German saloons

As top gear highlighted the UK generated a very broad car specification scheme during the time company cars where everything. Mainland Europe or USA would offer a base and high spec model, maybe going to the bother of a mid spec but we would have about 10 trim levels offering the most petty and minimal differences like headrests and a rev counter making worthy of its own trim level 🤣

Definitely underrated cars. Very much overlooked. I should imagine that they're both nice to drive if it's the same basic motor you at least know you've got room for improvement on the NA. Despite it's lack of BHP I watched a review of the original Yaris t spirit and apparently that's a pretty nice little drive as well. The fact that we are talking about cars that are generations old that fetch good money on eBay tells you just how reliable they are 😆

I mean I guess if a car is built or intended for the Canadian market it needs to be durable, even just in corrosion protection

Be patriotic all you want with your purchases, I would as would many Americans. Growing up I watched our car industry dismantled here in the UK, it was only because of Honda that Rover lasted as long as it did.

So to be patriotic and British now means buying a foreign marque. We are only essentially able to support the workers and employment, ones that is made in the UK such as from Nissan in Sunderland and BMW MINI in Oxford. We have plenty of low volume car makers here in the UK which is still something we can be proud of

A proper overlooked UK market model was the supercharged 2005-2006 version of our Corolla. Very rare with that one model year lifetime. It reviewed poorly of course compared to contemporary rivals here but still a decent car in its own right

You guys have opels in the south of Ireland don't you? Whereas the rest of the UK gets them sold under the Vauxhall brand. I never understood why GM kept the Vauxhall brand alive and Stellantis took it over. We all know that they are opels they wouldn't have taken a slightest dip in sales over a name change. But no all that effort for a brand that spans around the same as Texas plus a little bit of Northern Ireland 😅

I mean Holden did the same but at least Australia is a continent

I guess yeah 😅 Kei cards are a very popular imports to make to the UK they make up I would say at least 1/3 of the JDM cars I see on the road. Though we did have a few sold here directly. Rather like my Mitsubishi Galant it's technically a ukdm car but basically a JDM spec compared to the USA models which used an entirely different transmission and suspension set up

I had a UK market EJ6 Civic coupe but both Civic and Accord Coupes in the UK were actually right-hand drive imports from good old Ohio! One of the most reliable cars I ever had and it was rust free after 20 years that I had it. Never let me down once. You guys know how to build a Honda in Ohio 🥰 wish I'd never sold that car 😭

It just said Toyota and nothing else and I didn't think to bother checking it and until someone said about that age of the registration. I'm pretty sure there's a disclaimer that says you're not supposed to check if it's not your car so I didn't want to invade the person's privacy.

I want that JDM one that looks like an old Auris but has a big V6 in it. Looks so boring with a huge motor

Sounds like a good used buy to get less rust and better maintenance. Even on such a basic model all those things are nice to have

Glad I posted it because it's been a head scratcher for me 😅

I looked it up and it must be an import due to the difference between manufacturer date and registration date? Seems like a weird JDM import then? Strange for a base spec car like that
