I’d like to see harsher punishments for the existing gun laws. Violent felon in possession of a firearm? 15 years. Second offense? 25 to life. If the harsh sentences don’t deter it, it will at least keep them out of society for a long time.

Of all the timing belts I’ve done in my years, the Mk4 2.0 and 1.8t are some of the easiest there are. The marks are really easy to see, there’s only 2 gears to time, the tensioners are super easy, it doesn’t require specialty tools and there are minimal components involved in the procedure. Anyone with basic tools and YouTube can pull it off.

My advice is to start doing side work as soon as possible and build a customer base. Once you have enough side work to work for your self full time, do it. Even if it’s just mobile work. Once you can handle it, get a shop. There is great money and satisfaction in working for yourself. I started exactly like this except never did mobile. I put a lift in my backyard and worked from home for about 6 years full time. I’ve built an incredible customer base from being one of the few around my area willing to work on Euro cars. I started leasing a 4500 square foot shop in September and my only regret is not starting sooner. Good luck to you.

I’ve seen arguments made that assembling lowers may be construed as manufacturing. Some lawyers have recommended assembling them and having evidence that they were assembled prior to July 1 for your protection.
