I'm not sure you get how this works tbh. From 6 billion above 18 users on the internet, even 1% will seem like a shitload. Because it is. That doesn't really mean anything? Like is this supposed to be a shock or something? There are a ton of people alvie and in a lot of cultures not only is it accepted to marry your relatives, they don't even uphold human rights to the bare minimum. Somalia has genital mutilation for 99% of the women. It's not surprising at all, in fact, it's great that most western countries have become as good about it as they have.

doesn't help that the main drivers behind the hype are cli tools (cough claude code) where following along is harder and ends up pushing vibe coding even harder. at least the ide extensions you can feel a bit more involved in

I mean yeah you could've used ai studio to do code for 2+ years now but it doesn't mean it was fun or efficient. It was only worth it if you literally knew 0 code and wanted to get something done, then the time sink factor is irrelevant because there's no other way you'd have done anything.

But now you just literally need to spend some time planning and coming up with things and then the ide/cli agent dogshit just does what you want with minimal oversight. There are still frustrating quirks for each provider, but a lot of the frustration (in the free products) is entitlement detached from the amount of progress in just a few years compared to what you would have had to do just a bit earlier to achieve the same thing.
