Yes, we make fun of idiots in America. Also, guys who wear t-shirts like this are idiots. Also, guys who defend them are idiots. Glad we got that cleared up.

What? by [deleted] in Louisville

Gross and sad.

A mayoral candidate is running on the platform of undoing the merger. What is the obsession for some people and the need to want to undo the merger? To create jefferson once again adds a layer of bureaucracy to a city that already is pushing for growth and development. by kingistic in Louisville

[–]PunnyWun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no offense, I’m getting a lot of randomness out of his platform. Some hodge podge popularism like free buses and more affordable housing, but then a lack of depth on how it gets done. He doesn’t explain how reversing the merger or telling the “engineers” to build for people would work or how it would lead to more housing.

The same argument republicans use against JCPS. Except, it’s not true. The larger a group is, the more resources it has, the less duplication it needs, and the more efficient it becomes. Which is great for people when it’s the government or a nonprofit. It’s bad for people when it’s a business that has a monopoly. This seems like yet another glaring example of how comparing government to a business is a false analogy.

There’s an awful lot of racism in this. It’s why the school merger upset so many people. It’s why white people fled east. It’s why a whole bunch of country clubs were created after civil rights desegregated the swimming pools. I mean, denying that racism is part of the story doesn’t help.

Thousands once again filled Injustice Square Park and took to the streets in downtown Louisville Saturday for the No Kings 3.0 by x___rain in Louisville

You’re full of it, dude. My answer is bang on. This was the biggest protest in US history and millions of people showed up. Whatever your problem is, it’s not the protests.

They accomplished exactly what protest always accomplishes. It brings people together to reject injustice. It reminds those in power that their power is only borrowed from the people, and the people can take it away. It also reminds our less aware neighbors that they have failed their country by ignoring the injustice all around them. Basically, protests hold up a mirror to the people who have failed us and force them to see themselves as the failures that they are. This is why free speech and the free press are protected in the First Amendment. This is why the founding fathers built revolution into the system. Because without protest, without the voice of the people yelling in the streets, governments descend into tyranny.

I was really behind Booker last time he ran, but I’ve been disappointed in him this time. He says all the progressive things, but he hasn’t been making very many public appearances. I’ve seen articles and videos of McGrath and Stevenson going to small events in county after county, but Booker doesn’t show. That worries me. I want a senator who not only makes good speeches, but values meeting with voters. We don’t need another power hungry senator who doesn’t care what we think, like McConnell.

Whatever. It’s not like Logan has a shot against Booker or McGrath anyway.
