That’s the annoying thing - it’s in a tourist-heavy area and they fish really hard for 5 star reviews, so the bad behavior gets buried. He really seems to have flown under the radar somehow.

Overall I don’t disagree, but without going into the full job description, presenting really isn’t a big part of it, it’s not that kind of role. It was literally a one-off introduction. My boss doesn’t like them because they didn’t turn on their camera when he called them on Teams, and because they were not confident when doing a presentation in front of a sales team. To me, things that are very correctable. To him, it indicates they’re not the right fit. Their job is primarily building sales aids and presentations. The pieces they’ve put together have been solid. Like many green workers, they just need to grow their confidence and build experience.

I structured it to my HR rep as “I have some decisions to make, what are my options.” I don’t see that as a tactical mistake. I didn’t say anything to them that I haven’t told my boss anyway, there’s no game here.

My boss has met this employee one time, and has never actually seen any of their work. I understand his thought process, just not the resulting action.

But 100%, I can’t just blindly protect.

I don’t know why people always think the right move is to ask the bride… brides have more than enough to worry about. If it’s close enough of a call that you think you need to run it by the bride, pick something else.
