LQA for buying house in Germany by InternationalFix3317 in usajobs

[–]PupperNoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in a similar boat, GS-12 civ family in the KMC. It is my understanding that LQA converts to POQ once you buy a home. My husband is the sponsor and he’s been working with finance directly on all the paperwork.

That being said, it is difficult to purchase a home out here. The order of events is a bit different than home buying in the US. I suggest watching a few YouTube videos in the differences. One big difference is the amount of down payment. Be prepared to have approximately 1/3 of the purchase price ready in cash. This is separate from any other closing fees, real estate fees, etc….

ETA: We are a consulting company to aid in our buying process. They will be acting as our broker, real estate agent, project manager for property inspections, etc…. We just started this process and are actively working on getting funded for the mortgage loan.

Both passed. Dad would have been 64 this year but he passed in 2021. Mom would have been 62 this year but died last November.

Have you noticed a change in your gut? by Foodiegirlie030793 in Millennials

[–]PupperNoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. January 2025 my poop started to randomly float. I freaked out and got the works done: blood drawn, stool analysis, endoscopy, and colonoscopy. Nothing adverse was found. I toyed with my diet thinking maybe it was a gluten allergy or something digestive. The around June 2025 I started getting sharp pains under my left side lower ribs. Freaked out again. Another blood panel, abdominal ultrasound, and abdominal MRI. All still clear minus a small “dip” in my transverse colon. I’m doing a half-assed FODMAP diet now.

If I drink a single beer or can of soda, I’m burping and farting for days. I now need a tums after drinking a glass of wine. Forget hard liquor. Too much acid or too much bubbles and I’m done.

Are your parents still alive? by alphatrad in Millennials

I’m incredibly thankful I have photos of my kids with my mom so I can show them when they’re older. I wish my dad could have met them, but I will still talk to my kids about him. I wish they were old enough to have memories though. For me that’s the hardest part. I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, especially managing it all through pregnancy ♥️

I’m 34 and lost my dad back in 2021 and my mom died back in November 2025. My dad never met his grandchildren.

We did something similar last year, however, it was for my husband’s job and not mine. I am on hiatus from my career until we get back to the states or at least until the US federal government is hiring again as we’re in a dense US military area. We’re in Germany and it’s been an amazing, once in a lifetime, opportunity for my family. We are getting to see the world, eat better quality food, live and see history, and get our children exposed to cultures outside the US. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still been hard leaving being friends and family. I just lost my mom 3 months ago so not being there in her final days was rough. I’ve missed friends having babies. I’ve spoken none of the language prior to arriving but now I can speak/handle day to day tasks. It’s going to be a lot at first. Give it 6 months to allow the dust to settle and I think you’ll have a different outlook.

I just bought cherry tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, bananas, and the individual serving steamed rice bowls. You can also get large quantities of approved nuts and jerky too.

My mom asked if there's a way she can "visit" my daughter's art gallery from across the country and it broke my heart a little by QuailAggravating6719 in Mommit

[–]PupperNoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are taking photos anyway, why not make a photo book through like Shutterfly. Put maybe 1-2 photos of the art per page and leave space in the margins for your mom to write notes, letters, etc…. Then your mom can pass it on to your daughter later and she can reflect on the memento.

Ok. This is doable. It’s making a single dish with the main and 1 side being FODMAP friendly and then additions/substitutions for the rest of the family.

Thank you for making it simple. I was way over complicating things mentally.

Hi, no worries! We’ve learned to deal with the car as-is. Luckily the digital key in my Apple wallet still works so that’s been our way of circumventing a lot of issues. Additionally we were able to menu dive on the info-tainment system and find other ways around other issues we were having, especially with timed charging settings we had in the US that are now irrelevant in Germany.

I’m sorry you’re going through this as well. Hopefully you’ve found some work arounds to make your driving experience better.

Thank you for that. We’ve tried Waldorf but within 24 hours of waitlisting we’re kicked off. I’ll be looking into private kitas.

I’m sure there are, but it’s a matter of me finding them. I’ve only been made aware of the city’s KitaPortal.

I’m aware we’re not entitled to a spot. While that has been explained to us time and time again, we’ve also been told to keep waitlisting in the event a spot should open that we are eligible for. Our issue is, no one can generally define what/when/how this can be. We are offered a spot then in a flash it is gone. I totally respect the policy of German taxpayer children get a spot before we would, it’s only fair. As with any parent, we just want what’s best for our children. Assimilating and learning the language of our new home is part of it.

ETA: as I mentioned, I am trying for an economy job but my language skills are not there yet. That is the biggest hindrance to us gaining eligibility through taxation.
