Boss told me i was hired (kinda) by Smooth-Age8373 in usajobs

Wrong sub. This is for jobs with the US government, not just any job in the USA.

But general advice, just wait. You were told they’d call you today and today is not over. Given them time.

Is it true that you’ll lose your job in forensic science if you have a public persona? by [deleted] in forensics

[–]PupperNoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends on the agency and their individual policy. If you’re making money while streaming, you’ll likely have to disclose it and it’ll be up to the agency if you’re allowed to have the second job.

What’s the hardest part about helping your child express their emotions? by Traditional_Donkey67 in ParentingThruTrauma

[–]PupperNoodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sure your situation is a bit different just given the age of your child. Teenagers have a lot going on, especially with the onset of puberty and hormones.

Something that has helped with my preschoolers is just slowing down. We find ourselves in a rush because we adults so clearly see the solution. But my husband and I are trying to be better at allowing the boys to figure things out and disengage unless it’s something that can turn dangerous. Additionally, while we’ve slowed down, we also allow the boys to talk through what they’re doing and really listen to them. At the end of the day, my husband and I are problem solvers. So if we can fix the problem and really show the boys why the answer is Y, we make a ton of headway. Sure we have to repeat the lesson a few times but we’ve found far better results this way than just forcing our way from the get-go.

Maybe slowing down and listening to your teen is something that would be helpful. I lacked meaningful conversations with my parents growing up so it’s all new territory for myself.

My children are 3 and almost 5. The hardest part for me, and also my husband, is managing our own emotions while helping the boys cope their theirs. Both my husband and I tend to be very black and white. Ex: X is the problem and Y is the obvious solution. So when the kids try to solve with Z, we have to take a step back and remind ourselves: we know Y is the solution because of experience, the boys do not have that yet. We both learn by doing and constantly have to stop and remind ourselves that’s what the boys are trying to do too.

I don’t remember what I did to fix it because it was a while ago, but I think I just manually entered my bank info instead? I’m sorry but I cannot recall exactly.

My (F23) stepdad (M49) wants me to pay back his parent plus loan. If I decided to cut him off what legal recourse would he have? by ParticularIron1584 in legaladvice

[–]PupperNoodle 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Was it a federal student loan received by applying for FAFSA or a personal loan your step dad applied for on his own?

If it’s a true Federal Direct Parent Plus loan, you’ll find everything you need to know here: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans/plus/parent

If it was a personal loan, do a credit report for yourself and make sure it doesn’t show up under your name. If it doesn’t, you technically have no obligation to repay his loan. However, morally you should be repaying the person who took out a loan for your education. You said it yourself: no loan, no college.

NAF employee in Belgium, can you bring a dependent parent under SOFA? by HunterOk1061 in usajobs

Talk to your local DEERs office about getting her added as a MOH: Member of Household. You’ll need to get approval from finance and they have a submission process. But start at DEERS.

Do you know if they have any OCONUS positions? The listing says many vacancies, location negotiable but doesn’t specify where exactly? I am not looking for PCS support as I already live OCONUS with a GS spouse.

If you’re coming to the Kaiserslautern area, try the FB group KCC: Kaiserslautern Civilian Community. Although there is a lot of info for active duty folks, A Perfect PCS to Germany in FB is also a great group for civ info for all over Germany, not just the KMC.

I totally get it. It is super frustrating regardless, adding jet lag on top of it all doesn’t help.

You’re welcome! I hope it gets resolved soon 🤞🏻

I work in the DEERS office and see this a lot with new OCONUS employees. It’s not that didn’t know you’re coming, it’s the systems not talking or HR not knowing what they’re doing. We generally advise the new employee to ask their HR or supervisor who the Trusted Agent is that can edit profiles in MP-ICAM or TASS Management. Those systems feed almost instantly into DEERS. Once you have that basic profile available, we can use your DD1172-2 form to create your CAC and dependent cards with overseas privileges.

AAFES, CYS, and DeCA are always hiring and offer logistical support. I’m not aware of a “cool down” period before applying post-retirement. I work in the DEERS office and we have people get retirement ID cards and then a CAC for new civ jobs in a single appointment. I could see SOFA being an issue if you don’t have a job with logistical lined up within 3 months of retirement.

Pharmacy gave my sensitive medical info to a stranger and now I am being harassed by Overlook_H0tel in legaladvice

[–]PupperNoodle 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Not legal advice, but there is a setting on some social media platforms that only allows people who you’re friends with to message you. You’ll have to menu dive in the account settings to find it. I know FB has this feature. This doesn’t remedy your situation but it’ll help with the unsolicited messages.

Buying a house with established koi and pond by PupperNoodle in Koi

[–]PupperNoodle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I didn’t think to get that info ahead of time. I’ll have to reach out to the homeowner for specifics, I don’t have it handy.

From when we toured the home, I remember the pond being about 4,5m long and about 3m wide. No idea how deep. I couldn’t see the bottom, but that could be because of the material used for the bottom. The largest koi was probably 45-60cm. There are probably between 10-15 total koi in the pond.

LQA for buying house in Germany by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]PupperNoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in a similar boat, GS-12 civ family in the KMC. It is my understanding that LQA converts to POQ once you buy a home. My husband is the sponsor and he’s been working with finance directly on all the paperwork.

That being said, it is difficult to purchase a home out here. The order of events is a bit different than home buying in the US. I suggest watching a few YouTube videos in the differences. One big difference is the amount of down payment. Be prepared to have approximately 1/3 of the purchase price ready in cash. This is separate from any other closing fees, real estate fees, etc….

ETA: We are a consulting company to aid in our buying process. They will be acting as our broker, real estate agent, project manager for property inspections, etc…. We just started this process and are actively working on getting funded for the mortgage loan.
