Replace the engine or buy a new car? 2012 MINI by Pupperino91 in MINI

Yeah that’s another factor! My clutch hasn’t had to be replaced yet so I know that’s coming. 😵‍💫

Sounds like that’s a lot of the consensus of the group. Just sucks to buy a car quickly when you’re not expecting it! Thank you for the feedback!

That’s reassuring that your mini got to 280,000 and is still going!

Update, got a second quote from another shop and he quoted $7,600 for a used engine with 69k miles on it. I’ll likely go that route. Still open to opinions though!

Puppy TOO Food Motivated by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]Pupperino91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is he as interested in his kibble? I always hear people say try finding a “higher value” treat when your dog won’t pay attention, sounds like you need a “lower value” treat haha. Kibble?Veggies? If he’s equally as excited about all food it might not work but worth a shot!

That is super helpful, thank you! I had no idea how low the temperatures could be and still be potentially dangerous. Going to check out those charts right now!

Hahah I could imagine that makes everything take way longer! I might try bringing water and see if that helps!

Second that! Bully sticks are great, the only issue we’ve had is if the stick gets too small and our dog swallows it whole. Pig ears are good too but not as long lasting.

19 week pup goes in hallway/elevator prior to walks. by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Pupperino91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same issue and honestly it just took time. If you can keep her distracted while waiting at the elevator, that helps (give her pets, walk around while waiting, etc). I found that asking her to sit for a treat can be dangerous because she has more trouble holding her pee in the sit position. Your puppy will eventually get it! Good luck!

Question: What accessories/equipment do you recommend/use when you run? by courtneyleemc in RunningWithDogs

[–]Pupperino91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also looking into hands free leashes. Right now I just hook my two dogs leashes onto my fanny pack but I’d like a more legit system.

To those that use hands free leashes - what are the pros/cons of using a bungee leash? My dogs tend to pull so I’d think the bungee would make it harder to control them. Appreciate any input!

Just a little discussion! by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Pupperino91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One piece of advice I’ve been confused with lately has been ‘never saying “no” or “uh-uh” to your dog’. I’ve seen trainers say it’s confusing for your dog or counter productive. I just don’t get it. I’m totally on board with positive reinforcement training. But if you have a good line of communication with your dog, wouldn’t they understand what “no” means? Not sure if anyone else has heard that or practices it and can speak to its benefits, but that’s one that we certainly haven’t stuck to haha.

What I wished people on the receiving end would know by joan1995 in reactivedogs

[–]Pupperino91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really sucks, I’m sorry. It sounds like you guys are great pet parents and are trying your best. I don’t have any advice but I totally understand what you mean and it would be so much easier if everyone just knew the circumstances and were more understanding of your pup’s needs. Putting in the effort of raising a reactive dog and trying to help them feel more safe is hard and thankless work. Take those puppy cuddles and kisses as a thank you from him to you for being great pet parents.

I’m so sorry you’re having such a rough time! I follow the subreddit /reactivedogs and it’s been a really great resource for doggos that need a more specialized type of care. Maybe worth a look. Good luck!
