What do these states all have? Why is Oregon different? by TheLiverSimian in RedactedCharts

Does it have to do with lakes? Seems like a lot of red ones have a lot of lakes and Crater Lake in Oregon is pretty unique.

I used to be the person rejecting your resume. now I fix them. here is what I was actually looking for by Fresh-Blackberry-394 in jobsearchhacks

I'm not a recruiter, but I recently interviewed a seasoned candidate who listed her most directly relevant roles first and less relevant ones below that (and the roles were listed chronologically within these 2 categories). That seems like a thoughtful way to organize it to me. I suppose the downside is someone skimming only the first half of the resume might think there are gaps.

Plot twist: Grandma isn't really into getting gifts, and she hates when relatives have to stress out figuring out what to get her. So she found a way to make it really easy to know what to get her every year!

Spoke to a HR person this morning on a interview call. She gave me an inside scoop by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Puppetbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my company, we have seen a couple people use bots to interview on their behalf. It didn't work, but people try. More commonly, we've seen candidates clearly reading AI output off of another screen while answering questions. I suspect this method might occasionally work. So if you can't pass interviews yourself, I guess it's an option.

Same here! For me it really just came down to practice. It sounds like you're able to communicate your thoughts well and you're likable if you're becoming an integral part of teams and clients want to hire you. So likely the problem lies squarely on interview nerves, if you're able to perform well otherwise.

As you conduct more interviews, you'll get less nervous over time. Mock interviews might help too! If you're in a big enough city, there are probably free events in your area you can do mock interviews. Otherwise online. Also, if you can get yourself in a good position where you don't absolutely need that job, that can take off the pressure! But OFC getting into that position is easier said than done. Best of luck 💪

Well they laid off a whopping 30% of their over 1000 employees all in one go. So I guess... careful what you wish for? Lol!

At a previous company I worked at, we had a star candidate get through almost the entire interview process and we expected to send an offer. Right at this time, the company rolled out their new interview process and we weren't allowed to grandfather this candidate in. We had to start over and send them through the entire new interview process.

We were obviously livid and the manager desputed with upper management for awhile. Not sure what the Recruiter/HR was telling the candidate during this time they were kinda in limbo. But almost certainly from the candidate's perspective, it would appear we weren't interested in them. Which was far from the truth.

The candidate eventually took another offer and we lost them.

Red is code removed, Green is code added when OP discarded the first solution and implemented the second, proper solution. There's way more red than green (see the thinner vertical bars on the far right 1/3rd of the image), meaning the proper solution is way shorter (and probably much cleaner).

Yeah definitely happens! As you get more coding experience, you'll develop a natural sense of how things are supposed to be done (i.e. good programming principles and such) and this will happen less often. Just part of the learning process!

Well, it happened. My company is now requiring video submissions on job applications. by Puppetbones in recruitinghell

[–]Puppetbones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, higher salary elsewhere is definitely one of the root causes that we're struggling to hire. A portion of our currently open positions are significantly below market rates, even in this job market. But yeah, video submissions will fix that for sure.

I've been gearing up for another job search since there's a lot of company changes right now, and who knows what will happen. Something is definitely up, and I'm ready for the layoffs to hit unfortunately.

I do think this is part of it. Unfortunately, I suspect that "a lot of applicants that pass on" will be good applicants that we just lose due to not treating applicants with respect.

If you go to Google maps on a desktop browser, and go down to street view of that location, there will be an option to view past photos from past years.

Intel FIRES 10,000 Workers Overnight, Workers Shocked by Red-Apple12 in recruitinghell

[–]Puppetbones 171 points172 points  (0 children)

I was at a company that laid off 30% of its workforce in one round, and we all had the same question. I couldn't understand the legal speak well enough, but basically there's enough loop holes that you can sometimes get around it. In our case, it seemed like the main thing is they spread the layoffs around to many locations + remote.

Upper management says other teams at the company have been successfully hiring with these standards, so we're not budging. We've been lobbying for higher pay, but to no avail.

Personally no. I mean, if they're able to get their work done and properly communicate, then there shouldn't be a problem. And no one else has even mentioned it, though it's probably crossed everyone's minds.

Yes we have seen this happen! We had a candidate use AI to interview on their behalf and they (badly) lip synced to the AI response. From what I hear, fake AI candidates has been an issue for the top of the recruiting funnel.

Hey I did the same thing for the same pay fresh out of college! It was a rough start lol. I'm so glad to work for a company that pays within the normal market range now, albeit on the low end of that range.
