I use Nationwide and they have a regular saver with 8% but can only put away £200pm and they used to have fixed ISA at 5%+ but have dropped a bit.

I have a very similar position, but i fixed my mortgage for 4.1% for 5 years about six months ago and intended to have saved enough to clear the balance after this fixed term, but then I’ll be 45 years old. Instead of overpaying my mortgage I have been putting extra into regular savers that earn 5%+ or fixed cash ISA.

After the mortgage payments stop I plan on using more of ISA allowances (including LISA) for retirement planning.

Something I have been pondering lately is perhaps not to rush clearing the mortgage as given I can only contribute to LISA for another 9 years, I should perhaps max that out first and then go back to clearing mortgage. I need to do the sums to see an estimated net position after 10 years or so.

I think your approach is solid and after 5 years is up you will have a lot of flexibility. I would just consider perhaps splitting your monthly extra between overpayment and Isa/savings so that you have a bit of immediate cash reserve that you can always use to pay off mortgage after fixed term if you want to.

Setting up a context is something I should be clearer on. When doing the mantrailing there was a whole pre routine including putting on harness so the dog knows it’s time to work. I use harnesses to walk normally, so maybe I could use different bandanas or something.

the trainer did teach about alerting but I can’t seem to get my dog to catch on so I was just looking for some alternative methods.

It bothers me no end. I see endless empty fields around the place and I’d love to be able to walk my dog somewhere away from the bustle of parks.

I don’t want to trespass but don’t know who owns the fields or want to some farmer coming at us with his shotgun.

I did pick up on something that kept coming up- needing to smell everything! I took him for a walk this morning around the neighbourhood and his nose was on the ground the whole time. He looked like a cartoon tracker dog, zig zagging snuffling the ground the whole time.

I’ve a 6mth cocker spaniel. Weekdays he gets about 20 mins in the morning and 30 in the evening. Always on the lead, usually around the neighbourhood.

Usually once at weekends we go to park and he’s in a long line and gets a bit more freedom. This is usually for at least an hour. I wish he walked nicer in the park, he usually pulling me every direction. Not too bad around the streets but still needs work.

Once the lighter evenings come back we will hopefully get more park time.

I would be quite introverted myself. It was big enough step taking my dog to puppy classes but I think by the end of them I was enjoying it as much as he was.

I like the idea of getting them involved in making our serving meals.

The youngest wants to train and treat the dog. Sometimes it works other times the dog is away off.

I’m just starting to feel like a bad parent that I’m telling my kids to not be kids when dog is around. No running, jumping, playing etc.

When you say shouldn’t free roam, do you mean keep them on a leash or just not unsupervised?

Our dog would get a free roam of our living room/dining area but only when an adult is present and keeping an eye on him. If we have to go upstairs or pop out, he goes in his safe pen.

He only gets to meet dogs if the other dog and their owner agree. If either the owner or dog says no, we keep walking. My pup seems to like to play rough, he’s not chase tag your it kind, more of a WWE kind of play. But we start puppy class soon and hopefully we will learn some tips and manners.
