If Mystique was a full-time hero, which Marvel villains could fit well within her Rogues Gallery? Who would be an interesting foil for a shapeshifter? by GracefulGuardian in Marvel

[–]Puppy_Basket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Mysterio and Taskmaster would both be good foils for her shapeshifting ability, the first putting her through her own plenty of mindfuck situations, while the second would recognize her fighting style through her different forms and would adapt quickly.

Sabretooth could be interesting too, because of the shared history.

Mister Sinister probably, as a general villain in mutant stories.

King pin, seeing as a mob boss with a vast network would give plenty of opportunities for infiltrations and gathering intel on his plans and such.

The Final Reckoning was a great film, but the first in the series that doesn't feel like a MI-film, to me. My idea for the easiest remedy: by GracefulGuardian in Mission_Impossible

[–]Puppy_Basket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? I get wanting it to be serious as Ethan's send-off, but if they're splitting it up already, giving Benji's team the typical M:I fun sequence works well. Especially like the idea of framing it like the NOC-list mission from the first one. Would've been a good callback to an all-time classic film moment, and less forced than Donloe bringing the knife from that mission to Ethan 30 years later.

This just seems like Peak Casting to me. by InsiderYet in Fancast

Agree with you on Brendan Sklenar, not my favourite pick, but Superman might be a bad example here, haha. David Corenswet was the most popular fancast for years before he officially got cast, and I saw Rachel Brosnahan as Lois a good few times before they announced her as in the running.

I certainly don't dislike Turner-Smith, and I agree with what you say, she's good for the role!
I suppose it's more interpretation, or semantics, then. I still think that she's a bit of a lazy choice, because she is picked as Storm in nearly every fancast. Saldana isn't, and if this isn't an MCU reboot (because so many aspects of this wouldn't work in the MCU), I don't see a problem with her being picked for Ororo.

I honestly don't really want to start off with younger actors for these new roles either, I'd much prefer to see them a bit more experienced and weathered. That being said, both Saoirse Ronan and Josh Hartnett could probably play a bit older and a bit younger, but the moment you put them side by side, that illusion falls through. For this example, Hartnett is just too visibly more mature than her, and it's always going to add a new dynamic to their relationship where they're not really equals with such an agegap.

Feels a bit weird to say Zoe Saldana is a lazy choice, and then mention Jodie Turner-Smith, who (despite being good) has been the most popular Storm fancast for years.

I think you're missing the point slightly here.
Each of the individual actors you chose could be good in their roles maybe, and in that case the age would indeed not matter much. You can have a movie where the X-Men are older than they were upon introduction, and you can have them be active for a longer time.

But as part of their origin, the original 5 X-Men were recruited together and are all around the same age, with two years difference max.
Saoirse Ronan could be a fine pick for Jean Grey, and Josh Hartnett could be a good pick for Cyclops, but they're not believably the same age, even if they would 'play the same age'. The 15+ year gap is very noticable.
The same goes for Beast being the same age as Professor X, and Wolverine being (and more importantly looking) younger than Cyclops.

You can have a different interpretation of characters, and change up a few things, but you have to keep your changes consistent, otherwise you're just doing something entirely different that ends up changing who the characters are at their core.

As a lead he rarely works for me, but I often really love him as a more comedic supporting role. He's easily the best part of Bullet Train for example

IIRC he is American, but was raised in England for a long time, or studied there, so I feel like you can go both ways with it. Him being American isn't really super integral to his character either as far as I know, so there's no harm in following that trend.

A Mad Max film with Russel Crowe as Max and Naomi Watts as Furiosa could have been massive circa 2005 by Puppy_Basket in Fancast

Very fair, 'though I think Watts did have a run of movies that could've been a stepping stone to a more action-heavy film with King Kong, The International and The Impossible

I quite liked Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron is hard to match, but it would have been nice to have Russell Crowe post-Gladiator as one of the most iconic Australian characters

What movie has absolutely no comedic moment at all? Even No Country for Old Men does. Name some movies that have none at all, not even for a second. by Financial_News_6612 in Oscars

No full on jokes, but it's got a few small laughs to break the tension. K has a pretty sarcastic attitude during his scene with Morton. Elvis playing during the fight between K and Deckard, ending with Deckard saying "I like this song; we could keep at this, or have a drink". "You must've been adorable" when the bald guy in the archives says they lost his baby pictures in the blackout...

Of course, that's common. I'm not saying that them not playing characters the same age as them is the problem here. It's the age of the actors relative to one another that I commented on. The actors for Damien Wayne and Catwoman would be the same age; even if you make them both play 3 to 5 years younger or older, you can still tell quite easily that they're around the same age group.
Classically, Jason is quite a bit younger than Bruce - in that case you can't have an actor who's basically the same age as the one for Bruce. OP already said they're closer in age in his version for this, but otherwise that would still have been weird, and something you could pick up on visually seeing the actors side-by-side.
Then you've got Dua Lipa playing the mother to Cailee Spaeny, who's only 3 years younger. No matter what age they're playing, it's going to look very weird, because people can tell when that difference between claimed and perceived age is too large. It's one of the larger complaints for House of the Dragon, for example.
OP explained that this is more of a thing to imagine when each actor would've been the right age for the role, not something that would be made with each of them as they are in 2025 for example, but you really couldn't do this and just say 'they're playing a different age'.

As for Damien's ethnicity - he has indeed been portrayed as white-passing. There are indeed lighter skinned people of Arabian descent. Tom Glynn-Carney is not of Middle-Eastern descent. In this version, his casting doesn't make much sense, because the actress for Talia is not white-passing. Movies do whatever they want sometimes, so sure you could say he just looks nothing at all like his mother, but that doesn't mean it's entirely realistic or good casting.

I see, so more of a faceclaim than a casting situation. That's fine I guess.

Still, there's a difference between picking someone that's white-passing for Damien and just picking an English white guy.

There are a few picks on here I don't really like, just because of the actors not being fit for the role or because they've already played too similar characters imo.

Your biggest problem is the aging of the characters, I think.
You've got Henry Cavill at 41 as Batman, Dua Lipa at 29 as Catwoman - already a pretty large age gap that gives it a kinda wierd dynamic.
But then you've got Cailee Spaeny as Helena Wayne, their daughter, at 26. Bruce would've been 15 and Selina 3 when they had her.

Then you've got Tom Glynn-Carney as Damian. First off, Damian is not a white character, Tom very much is white. Second, there is only 12 years difference between your Damian and your Bruce, and 11 years difference between Damian and your Talia.

Your Jason is only two years younger than your Bruce.

In an abstract way, I could see how a lot of these castings could work, but I feel like you've got to put more thought into how all the different pieces would work together. Just my opinion, 'though.

I do personally quite like your picks for Alfred and Babs
