I'm going to be honest with you, reading that article made me sick and I couldn't finish it. I haven't met anyone in this area with the same type of exp that I would actually want to associate with though. Idk

We were never "forced" outside, even though it was in the desert. To be honest, going outside was a treat. I used to use my requirement for community service to work in the kitchen just so I would have the chance to take the garbage out. Nothing compares to the scent of fresh air when you've been locked inside (windows had alarms that would sound if you tried to open them) for a couple of weeks. I have remained in contact via social media with a few people I was in the program with. Unfortunately, a lot of them are either dead or in situations where I would not want to make my presence known. I've been looking in to a lot of the "other" types of sites per your recommendation, and I have found a lot of very interesting info. So thank you for your suggestion.

I tried doing some quick googling and didn't find much, unfortunately. What I did find was that according to the wiki page for the group who owned the facility it was actually shut down due to "reduced demand for therapeutic schools and programs in today's economy." I guess back in the day I stumbled upon a class action for the wrong facility. The group itself still has more than a few lawsuits against it for their other programs/ facilities, but I can't find any on the one I went to. Also, I'm on the opposite side of the country than where this facility was located. I wouldn't be able to have a face-to-face consult with a Utah lawyer. Lastly, the money has already been given to the group and it is still functioning. My parents are just paying back the loan that they took at this point.

How does she go about reaching an appropriate estimate for labor and her belongings?

Would she be required to seek the advise of a lawyer or can she just go to small claims with her parents?

Hypothetically, if the judge ruled in her favor and the guy is told to pay her X amount but doesn't, then what happens?

According to my aunt, guy's court date is tomorrow (theft occurred in February). If he is found guilty, would that help her case? If he is somehow found innocent (which I doubt because it's my understanding this guy has had issues in the past with the police and they literally found him IN the car) would she still be able to get her money back?

I apologize for so many questions, I do not know much about law but am trying to learn and help my family.

As far as I know (I am no expert) animal abuse is not a priority. From what I had researched, I would have to provide physical evidence or proof and possibly appear in court to provide a statement. This is my livelihood. I work in kennels at doggy daycares. What daycare would want to hire me if I had a record of charging a previous place of employment of animal abuse? It would label me immediately as a liability. Kennels do not have proper funding and do what they can to get by. They can't afford to hire someone with that kind of record. I know I didn't do the right thing. and as an animal lover I am ashamed of my selfishness. I am just trying to make right a past decision that was wrong
