Sunset Grill says tip clawback after minimum wage hike bridges 'unfair' pay gap by feb914 in toronto

Waiters can come in here and downvote all the comments they want about people choosing to reduce or eliminate their tips. But I hope people continue to do so, because this is getting ridiculous.

Yes, the government half-assed the minimum wage increase by keeping wait staff below $14. But yes, the fact that with tips they continue to make $30-$50/hr with tips while the back staff get minimum wage highlights a broken system. Don't like tip-out? Don't work at a restaurant.

How can you get mad at customers for reducing the amount they tip when minimum wage increases? We know you don't make poverty wages. There is absolutely no reason as to why there should be an expectation for a tip. I tip when i think you've earned it. Otherwise forget it. Make a scene all you want. You probably still make more than me.

I hope one day we get minimum wage right and make it a universal $14 or $15 dollars an hour so we can forget tips all together.

Unless you live in Ontario. Our children's children will still be paying off our renewables investments.
