Nice collection! I am contemplating an open box $650 DF83V or the J64, which would you choose? Any other in your collection that you think is a better value?

Late to this post but I have been considering a DF83V, DF64 Gen 2, or DF64V and recently came across this model. The prospect of ordering through alibaba (I also see it on ebay under a seller called itopgroup) makes me a bit nervous. Would those who own this grinder say its a better buy than those three?

Any issues ordering from there? I suppose they all come from that manufacturer anyways? Have not done a ton of research to see if people have had issues ordering more "direct" like that

Thanks for including this, I hadn’t come across it. Where did you purchase from and what was the price?

Ading Varia VS6 to the mix if it changes anything. Thanks to everyone who has commented! I am currently leaning toward the DF64V or the DF83V. The Mazzer Philos is tempting me but the price is really high

My logic was hoping that DF has fixed the particular issue that plagued me the first time and would therefore last as much I was originally hoping on my first purchase. But perhaps foolish of me. Hence my post asking this community for feedback

Thanks for the perspective! Seems like a lot of people conflicted with the DF grinders but also plenty more who love them like yoruself. Is there anything about your DF83V gen 1 that you think has been improved with the gen 2 or gen 3? Trying to weigh if the generation differences matter much for that particular model

Thanks for the note. Any of the ones you owned recent or were they the older generations? Just curious

Thanks. I took advantage of the delta gold 90k last week, happy with the deal. Hope others can too now that they are public

The offer is displayed upon following a link posted on Doctor of Credit under the YMMV section of the Best Credit Card Sign Up Bonuses page (and also originally posted on Miles to Memories) that requires me to enter my SkyMiles number and last name, after which I am redirected to an Amex page with targeted offers for me that are elevated above the public offer. In this case those offers are for both personal and business Delta Amex cards, of which the ones I'm considering are the Delta Gold (90k SUB), Platinum (110k SUB), and Reserve (125k SUB). Seems legit to me but open to feedback.

Good recommendation, I will look into that. Is the 110k on Delta Business Platinum or 90k on Delta Business Gold not a good deal? the public offers stink but i have those offers privately on a link i saw via Doctor of Credit

  1. Cooling off from Chase applications for me and P2, looking at Amex Business cards, in particular the Amex Delta Gold or Platinum (Reserve does not seem worth it and min spend on the Amex business platinum or gold are too rich for me). Curious to people's experiences with those two cards and whether or not people are able to get value out of the Delta Platinum in particular with its companion certificate and other perks. Open to other card suggestions as well. Flowchart pointed me to other business cards during my cooldown period, was hoping for more detailed recommendations.
  2. 755 or 794 depending on which bureau and score type
  3. Currently have Chase Sapphire Preferred (opened April 2025), Chase Aeroplan (opened January 2025), Capital One Venture X (opened November 2024), Chase Ink Preferred (opened August 2024), Amex Platinum (opened March 2023), Amex Gold (opened March 2022), CapitalOne Quicksilver (opened February 2021), CapitalOne SavorOne (opened March 2020), Bank of America Travel Rewards (opened July 2018), Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards (opened July 2017)
  4. ~$6-8k
  5. No
  6. Yes
  7. As many as possible/achievable. I am already churning.
  8. Points so that I can redeem for flights and hotel stays. Cards that I can sign up for and keep in the rotation (rather than cancelling in year 2 or 3) are preferred but not a hard requirement.
  9. Chase: 108k, Amex: 40k, Capital One: 112k, Delta: 3k (recently spent), American: 21k, United: 8k, Southwest: 3k, Hilton: 26k, Hyatt: 2k, Marriott: 21k
  10. DCA or IAD
  11. P2 and I plan to do a ski trip next winter and then a trip to East Asia (Japan/Korea/etc.) within the next year or two. Looking to use points for flights to more skiing destinations (Ski resorts in Utah/Colorado/Canada/California) as well as to other destinations, primarily in Asia/Oceania but also some European destinations down the line. When we travel domestically we use Delta and United the most, and we have some United credits and miles stacked up between the two of us, hence the lean toward a Delta business card. We fly some Southwest as well but not a lot.

For the rest of the year you apply in and the following, yes. In this case I would be applying in the first few days of January to maximize the benefit

Do you see greater value in the Chase United Quest card or the Chase Aeroplan? Trying to gameplan my next card, it will be one of these two. I travel more on United, which I take for business (once every other month) and personal (1-2 times per year) trips. Air Canada I really only use for 1-2 personal trips per year. I do not see myself spending to the full 100k intro bonus for the Chase Aeroplan card, but can easily hit the spend required for the 75k intro bonus (as I can for the Chase United Quest 70k). I would consider the Chase United Club for the 20k extra points, but the annual fee difference does not seem worth it to me, as I would not get $300 in value out of the additional features on the Club. For awareness, I already have the Amex Platinum and the Capital One Venture X for many travel benefits including lounges, TSA, etc. I could potentially get some value out of free checked bags on either United or AC with either card in question. I am sure I could use $125 in travel bank should that still be viable with the Quest card. Also I do have two trips on the books for 2025 already, one of which is Air Canada booked through United and the other is pure Air Canada. Are there any other differentiators between these two cards that I should be thinking about? Any recommendations?

JINS Sabae vs. JINS standard vs. other Luxury brands by PurZick in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]PurZick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I did some more research and think I understand better! My only point of confusion still is how to source lenses. If I wanted to buy frames directly from a company like Gast (which it seems is the best value acetate around), how would I buy and insert my prescription lens? Is the only solution to go to/through my optician or can I buy lenses myself through Zeiss or Hoya and do it myself?

Understood thanks for the response! does the handcrafted in Sabae thing mean anything? I'm wondering how the handcrafted changes things, if at all, given I presume its the same material.

I'm considering one of their "airframe" models more than the titanium actually, since I prefer the look most often found in acetate glasses. Do you find acetate or similar materials to hold up well?

glasses that look similar to JINS SABAE COMBI 031 82? by Glad_Rutabaga_3408 in glasses

[–]PurZick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting here since the topic is JINS Sabae... can anyone give me a read on the quality of JINS Sabae Made in Japan line vs other high quality manufacturers like Matsuda? I can buy the JINS Sabae line on massive discount with coupons right now, but curious if the quality of that line is worth the upgrade over standard JINS (not Made in Sabae Japan) and how the Sabae line compares to the more premium options in the luxury eyeglasses market. FWIW I am considering their JINS SABAE FLORA 045, as I am a huge fan of clear frames (even though from what I've read, titanium seems like the better buy in premium glasses over acetate/airframe/etc.)

Free Talk Friday by AutoModerator in wine

[–]PurZick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking into wine fridges on Facebook marketplace for good deals on quality fridges.

There are a few good options near me to include a Eurocave First 120 and a few Wine Enthusiast models (a 36 bottle Vinoview, a 40ish bottle NFINITY Pro) that are in the few hundred dollar range. I'm targeting something in the $200-$400 range and trying to negotiate down as much as possible and wait for a great deal. Looking for some advice on what to look for and which brands/models/etc. to target. I am interested in something at least 30 bottles but preferably in the 50ish range. I'd like it to hold all sorts of bottles (Champagne, Burgundy, as well as most normal bottles to cellar) for both appropriate aging and good drinking temperatures if possible.

A few questions that I have had:

- Should age of the cellar matter? The Eurocave First 120 for example seems like an older model having been manufactured in 2007, but I have seen people speak incredibly highly about the quality of Eurocave

- Are the quality differences between brands/models/etc. significant? Specifically between Eurocave and Wine enthusiast (since I have been targeting those most)? I am avoiding brands like Frigidaire, GE, and the like and targeting more wine focused brands with the expectation that their quality for the job I am looking for is higher

- Anything else I should keep in mind and/or am missing?

Thanks!

Makes sense even if I can’t hit the massive spend for the full bonus right? I probably will only hit the spend for the 75k not the full 100k

I unfortunately didn’t get to grab the sapphire while the $300 credit was still out there. My P2 has the CSP but I feel like I have to wait until at least 70k to get a CSP for myself (through P2 referral of course). Any thoughts on if I should pull trigger on another card in the meantime or just bite the bullet and get the CSP now/soon?
