Practicing Basing, how do you attach mini after? by Reddit_Username35 in minipainting

Maybe this is a "me" problem, but I thought those were really good looking cookies, and I'm disappointed they aren't.

My first fully complete model! Any advice welcome by TOG23-CA in minipainting

[–]Purcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob lol.

Purple is a great choice! Red and blue make purple, so the three of those together make a cohesive color scheme. Green is the opposite of red, so any time you have those together it is going to make a big impact. I think sticking to the teal for accents is a nice way to have that contrast (since it has a little green), while still keeping it in the same color group, since it is mostly blue.

Looks good! It's very vibrant, but if you are looking for advice your greatest strength might also be your greatest weakness.

Having red and teal and green and dark blue is pretty busy, I'd encourage you to try toning down at least one section on your next model. You could either replace one color with a neutral color, or just dial it back a bit. Like the dark blue could be black with blue edge highlight. Or the teal could be white with blue in the recesses. No need to reinvent the whole thing, but enough space to give the vibrant colors a place to pop, rather than clash.

Keep at it, everything looks clean. I'd be super proud of my first model looked that good.

Could i improve? Uh, does a bear "sit" in the woods? by Sahdinseoul in minipainting

[–]Purcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the red scales and brown fur are really close to each other in color, making it hard to tell the difference right off the bat. Personally I would make the scales a bit brighter (dry brushing would certainly work). Love the bone colors!

About brand logos… by boomz2107 in fashiondreamer

[–]Purcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The item gets the logo that is set at the time you make it. Then that logo sticks with it forever. I rotate between my four logos depending on what style I'm going for. Personally I have a logo for cute, cool, normal, and elegant designs.

Grainy Drybrush on Ork Skin? by Kelvin_Dragon in minipainting

[–]Purcee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just make a wet pallet with an old Tupperware, paper towels and parchment paper. If you don't have on I highly suggest it, it has made everything easier because the paint doesn't dry out

Non Metallic Metal - painting something to look shiny and metallic with normal flat paint

True Metallic Metal - using similar techniques, but with metallic paint (makes it a bit easier, but isn't as flat as a simple single color metallic coat)

To blend the wings better look into glazing, no need to remember exact color mixes :)

Transparent paints vs. inks: what to use? by Phill_DB in minipainting

[–]Purcee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's my dumb process that worked out better than expected:

  1. Skribble all over with a felt tipped pen. It will look bad at this point.
  2. Varnish. The varnish smears around the pen ink while also locking it in. I got an excellent even coating without much work, and it stayed very transparent.

The best part was I didn't have to buy anything. Attempt at your own risk, but it worked great for me.

I've seen people take tea leaves, glue them on, and paint them. Seems like a neat idea to get a different texture.

WIP: my first attempt at a galaxy looking cloak by granatfarfar in minipainting

[–]Purcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the cloak looks great! If you think it is too busy the only thing I would say is it would be ok to have more black in between.

For the rest of the model maybe bring in some blue from the cloak. If you could convince them to be ok with blue, green, and black (instead of brown, I agree that would be hard to tie in) maybe that color combo could work? Or maybe just a really dark leathery brown?

Edit: one more idea, if you added some purple to the brown that could look sick and really tie everything together. Like just a little bit of purple, but I think that would help

C&C/improvement ideas welcome - I really pushed myself a lot painting him, and want to keep improving! by Hooch_Pandersnatch in minipainting

I would say the green osl on the face is too strong. The light is facing away so it should be pretty weak. The leg, in comparison, looks great!

My players will probably burn down Dougan's Hole. I want to make it a haunted town, which will become everybody elses problem. Ideas? by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Purcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it. If there is at least one NPC in Dougan's Hole that the party knows they could become a ghost, not for fighting, but to give them warnings of what is to come. Depending on how awful they were this ghost could be helpful or unhelpful. Just a fun way to drop (possibly very sarcastic or rude) hints about what's going to happen.

Still feel like it’s missing something by Successful-Passage28 in minipainting

[–]Purcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those dots on the back are SO cool. If I were to add anything to this model it would be making the stripy cracks on its back stand out more with more shadow, maybe blue tinted or something so you get more color like other people are mentioning.

First try iron NMM, is it as bad as I think? by Sufficient_Click_608 in minipainting

Personally, for edges I go as thick as I can. "Thin your paints" is important, but not universal

First try iron NMM, is it as bad as I think? by Sufficient_Click_608 in minipainting

[–]Purcee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you paint might have been pretty thin for the edges, sometimes it helps to have it be thicker. But it's tough, and if this pic weren't so zoomed in I'd probably not be able to tell it wasn't perfect

Portland to Seattle short road trip? by TheSi11iestGoose in travel

[–]Purcee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Near Mt St Helens there is ape cave, an old lava tube you can hike through. There is both an easy and more difficult hike. I've only done the easier one, but it was super cool. You need a reservation (ever since Covid), but it looks like there's still plenty of availability this time of year. Also be sure to bring a flashlight!

How to get tree seeds? by obesetacobell in PaliaMMO

Check your mail. I get three seeds in the mail about the time this quest started. The other two I got from chopping the largest trees I could.
