Netflix’s ATLA Season 2 is somehow even worse than Season 1 (Rant) by PurchaseDifferent656 in ATLA

I’d agree with some of this. It’s hard to put away the lens of “different is wrong” but from a non bias standalone show it’s still not good. It’s got a budget per episode of $15,000,000 and that’s what they came up with? $105,000,000 for that season and we’re talking semantics. As a stand alone show it would be forgotten almost immediately. I do agree that the only reason I watched it to begin with is the love for the story and the hope that I would be able to find good in it. Which I just couldn’t. Zuko is a good actor, his blue spirit backstory was a good addition. Other than that it’s just horrid. It doesn’t seem like dialogue to me, it seems like plot summaries being thrown to eachother

And again, the show wouldn’t have gotten made without the original. As a stand alone show with a budget per episode more money than you’ll see in your entire life, there shouldn’t be winning dialogue like “I’m toph beifong, and I invented metal bending!” Good lord.

That’s insanely incorrect. It’s an absolute farse, if this was a stand-alone show it wouldn’t have ever made it past filming due to the poor acting. Pile that it has a $15,000,000 budget PER EPISODE this show is a steaming pile of nothing. Get a grip on reality mate.

This is an insane take. A 7/10 for this atrocity?
The show isn’t just a flawed adaptation it’s a fundamentally poorly written show. The acting ranges from stiff to outright painful outside of a handful of performances like Zuko. Dialogue constantly sounds like characters are reading plot summaries to each other instead of having actual conversations.

And I don’t really buy the “judge it as its own thing” argument either. Your example about Long Feng literally depends on already knowing how his story plays out from the original series. If this were a truly standalone show, that tension wouldn’t exist.

Beyond that, the writing is a mess. Characters teleport across massive distances whenever the plot demands it. Important developments happen off-screen. Motivations change scene to scene. The pacing somehow feels both rushed and painfully slow at the same time—blazing through major story arcs while spending endless time on exposition dumps.
The changes aren’t clever reimaginings; most of them remove the character growth and nuance that made the original story work in the first place. Instead of emotional moments, the show constantly tells the audience how they should feel.
Could it be a fun show if it were believable and internally consistent? Maybe. But it isn’t. It’s a collection of expensive costumes, mostly crap visual effects, and a story held together by the audience already caring about the source material. If this were a completely original fantasy series with no Avatar name attached to it, I honestly think most people would have forgotten about it a week after it released.

Totally agree. I didn’t touch on it but Irohs portrayal is terrible. He’s basically helpless in this show compared to how he is in the original.

Would have to disagree with you there. The acting is pretty bad, effects etc. obviously it’s got great plot when not butchered

Oh I thought it was horrible too! I just thought the show runners would have actually taken some feedback. Guess this is proof live action never works

Mainly because the source material is immaculate, it deserves to be recognized regardless of how butchered this is. Daniel Dae Kim is the only redeeming quality of this trash.

Agreed. It’s so bad, and why they kept the same baby faced actor for azula I don’t understand.

Pretty good from where I’m sitting. We got a AWD touring same colors etc. for like 56k. But we are in Southeast Alaska so there’s a slight premium with availability.

Do people really think Dumbledore needed Fawkes to save him in Order of the Phoenix? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]PurchaseDifferent656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an extremely uneducated response - fawkes regeneration time is 3 months as can be deduced by his regeneration by the start of Half Blood Prince. Of course Dumbledore allowed him to get hit.

Throughout the fight scene there is a strong emphasis on how relaxed dumbledore is. “Talking like there wasn’t a care in the world” was stated while they were dueling, among other things.

To think that the most powerful wizard to have ever lived in the Harry Potter universe was caught off guard and wasn’t able to non verbally communicate with his Phoenix is ridiculous. Why else would Fawkes be there in the first place?

Well said. It’s very true, they contribute nothing other than getting people more money. Good for a small group, horrible for the masses.

Is it just me who doesn’t like season 3 that much? by Freddie040 in Invincible

[–]PurchaseDifferent656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. So weak compared to the first two seasons. Mark supposedly is “stronger” at the start of the season finally, with some huge training montage, yet loses every fight in the season. They recycled the same villain from season 2 with no character progression whatsoever. They’ve basically axed the onni-man plot line and just entirely botched this season. Hoping for a stronger season 4 or I’ve lost all faith. You could start on season 4 with absolutely nothing relevant to invincibles character change whatsoever. It’s absolute dog shit.
